I have been dealing with IBS pain since I've gotten here, and I have no clue what to do. Back home if it got as bad as it has here, I would have gone to the doctor already.

ya she seems in a great deal of pain as well....misses work because of it and stuff. You'd think with all the medicinal remedies they have out here, there would be some potent relief for IBS sufferers

Tell her that I feel her pain and understand. The pain is so intense and gut wrenching that sometimes all I can do is double over and cry. I've tried several homeopathic remedies, and they haven't really helped.

I have IBS, gluten intolerance, dairy allergy, and most likely undiagnosed Celiac Disease. You guys need to lay off the red pepper paste at minimum, and watch your food combinations at best: red pepper and alcohol can be lethal for sensitive guts.

Basically, I avoid Korean food and cook my own or eat at Western restaurants. It seems extreme and is regrettable, but whenever I stray back to Korean food, I get sick. If you are not sensitive to wheat, then you have more options, but definitely avoid "red" food, which is most of it.

No worries my friend. I know what that excruciating pain is like, and it is NO joke. Essentially, it is the entry point to a high probability of stomach or bowel cancer. Get off of that road!

IBS is absolutely not linked to stomach or bowel cancer. Please check your facts before posting information like this.

I've had IBS for years. Will write a more detailed post when I am off work and have more time.

Was diagnosed with IBS in Daegu. In Canada it was an enlarged spleen.

Here!

Iherb.com has amazing stuff for IBS and they ship straight to Korea. Personally, I've been using "Heather's Tummy Care Acacia Fiber". That stuff is amazing--basically it's high quality soluble fiber. Soluble fiber does a lot of important stuff, but for IBS it gives the colon something to "grip" so that it doesn't spasm so hard.

Other things:
1. Soluble fiber...learn what it is and get as much in your diet as possible. It's something REALLY lacking in Korean meals.
2. Cut down the alcohol
3. Avoid gochujang as much as you can, and red pepper flakes also. Both of those irritate your upper colon.
4. When you're eating a soup (chiggae), don't drink the broth...tons of salt, grease, and mostly likely, red pepper.

Please do not assume that I have not checked "the facts." Who have given you your "facts," The same medical establishment that is famous for consistently misdiagnosing other serious diseases in the name of some such syndrome as "IBS"? WHAT exactly IS the diagnostic test for IBS, anyway, except for a collection of symptoms that the doctor cannot pin on anything else. IBS is notorious for more often than not being the first step in a misdiagnosis that doctors discover is something else down the road. In my case, it was a way for my HMO to get rid of me while I still suffered the consequences of what was obviously something else. If I had listened to the medical establishment, I most certainly would have been a terrible statistic in the cancer link between gluten, stomach cancer and lymphoma.

But, yeah, all the "studies" say there is no link with IBS, but no one can really say that unless you know there is NO INFLAMMATION caused by it. In my case, my doctor, "the expert", sent me home with a diagnosis of "IBS" when he had already tested and seen that my white blood cell count was very high, among other things. Thank the universe that I do have a brain, and do my own research, and figured it out. I then had to go back and tell "the expert" that my so-called lactose intolerance (which he also "diagnosed," god love him) was actually a dairy allergy, in which additional tests proved that I was correct.

But hey, we are living in a culture with one of the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world, and they consume loads of red pepper paste, wheat, salt and alcohol. And people wonder why they are doubled-over in pain. It doesn't mean that it automatically leads to cancer, but we are dealing with a phantom syndrome (until it morphs into a disease that the medical establishment declares legitimate) in a land of abnormally high stomach cancer.

But hey, if you want to fight over whether or not "IBS" causes stomach cancer, be my guest. My point is that inflammation, exacerbated by diet and other factors causes stomach and other cancers, and IBS is a fake diagnosis for underlying symptoms that the medical establishment doesn't yet recognize. The same medical establishment doesn't recognize my food allergies, and is fond of telling me to get shots for hay fever because THAT'S THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN MAKE MONEY - OOPS - I MEAN "CURE" ME.

But anyway, I'm done here. I figured out my "IBS." Good luck with yours.
