Release Letter aren't obligatory by Korean Law.

Exit orders and visa cancelations are.

Ah, I remember now- you're the latest ESL Cafe troll. I'll have to remember to stop feeding you from now on.

Troll on.

I did spilts (10am - 12.30pm then 6pm - 10pm) during my first year and all I can remember is that I felt like I did nothing but work.

It was a nice workplace with nice cowroekrs and employers, but I'd work, sleep, work and then it would be the weekend.

The time between shifts was wasted as there is nothing to do during this time and you just feel like resting after lunch anyway.

It wasn't hell, but I do prefer feeling like I have at least a few hours of my day to relax and do my own thing with.

OP - don't listen to cert43. As long as you give fuill notice and follow your contract, I'm sure you will be fine if you decide to quit.

One guy at my first job got arrested and then forgiven and a month later was drunk at work and got found out and was fired with a months notice and still got a release letter.

Arrested? What? Shocked

No,split isn't hell,but Jail certainlyis.

Iam telling you the law.Yeah, it sucks. Sorry

I don't like it, either;but there is nothing you

can do to change this situation. If she wants

to quit,that's her right,but not Korea's.

Maybe for most people

Other people I've worked with used to almost look forward to it.

a/ Use that time to get fit again
b/ Reasonble meals and fed 3 times a day
c/ Catch up with old friends
d/ they actually liked the set routine of being told what to do

Why do you think theres always a spike in petty crimes just before Christmas, it's no coincidence, some people prefer Christmas inside.

there's some good advice in this thread.

my advice is to quit your job, and find one that doesn't require split shifts. that is, if you're keen on staying in Korea for an additional year or so. If you're a 1 year and get out type of a person, my advice to you is to stick it out.

I agree in principle with this advice. However, I feel that a year is a tad too long to stick out.

After the ordeal the Op will need a minimum of one to 2 months off just to get human again, thus undoing a lot of his profits.

Op, why do you need wake as early as five; do you have to prep or something? If so, cut the prep immediately. Is your accomodation some way from the school? Can't that be looked at?

Witness the previous poster whose first shift only started at 10am and had the sense of always working working working. Yet your situation is intolerably far worse. Your mental health is going to go for a loop.

I have worked variety of weird shifts running a 24 hour truckstop. Some people are able to tolerate and weather odd shifts much better than others. I suggest you make a best effort to get into a routine so you get used to sleeping both at night and during the day. You might not have much of a personal life especially on weekdays b/c you are always resting or working.

Big deal. A midnight run is called for just after payday. In addition, a good ole apartment trashing wouldn't be a bad idea either if the OP is only getting 2 million a month. Get the beers in and have your self a blast while you go about it OP.

This thread is hilarious. Sooo much bad advice from taking sleep medication (talk to your doctor first), to quitting without a release letter, to apartment trashing (that WAS a joke right? He knew the schedule before he signed the contract so why punish the school?)

OP - Talk to your boss. Tell him you are having a really hard time with the schedule and you don't think you are going to be able to finish the year. I'm sure he has heard it before. If he says that he can change it, great problem solved. If not hand him your written notice. Tell him thank you for the opportunity and that you're sorry you can't complete the contract. Be prepared for him to be shocked and upset. If you owe him airfare pay it. Ask him to give you your release letter and find something else. It shouldn't be too hard to get work now that you're already here.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm not gonna be able to stick it out. I'm already filling out applications to schools in Thailand, Taiwan, and other places in Asia. I think this split shift schedule has soured me on Korea and I want to leave as soon as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I love my hagwon boss. He is extremely kind, as well as my coworkers. They all threw me a birthday party and gave me gifts and made me feel welcome. My students are all great as well. This schedule is just killing my mental and physical health. This weekend I did not want to do anything but sleep in and eat because of how exhausted I was and it is already sunday afternoon and I am dreading returning back to teach. Mondays are the hardest because I need to start work at 6am and finish at 12pm and then go back from 6pm-10pm.

I've worked out a solution. I just stop preparing for any class. I don't give a crap anymore. That's the attitude I need to have. If they are going to overwork me then screw em. I'm out the door in a few months anyways.

Thanks for listening to me rant guys
