How many of you have gone to the dentist to get a root canal done here?

I've been to the dentist officially 5 times for one tooth (a root canal), and they said that I'd have to come back 3 more times to finish the process.

8 times for one friggin' tooth makes no sense to me.

I walked out on them today because I suspect they're defrauding the NHIC to get as much money out of one root canal as possible.

Have any of you had this type of dental experience?

I think I went in 6 times for my root canal, which seemed ridiculously excessive, but can't really say I have any basis for comparison.

Definitely scamming the system. And wasting my time.

My friend had to go 5 or 6 times for his. I had to go 3 times for an inlay, and when I went 6 months later for my check up and cleaning, I told them that it was sensitive, and they said that the dentist has ****ed it up, and I had to have a crown done (which also took 3 times), but they gave me a discount, and the new dentist was great.

I'd only ever had 1 cavity when I was 23, before moving to Korea.

On a side note: does anyone know where one could find flouride rinse? I'm about done with my purple Listerine, and even a separate one like ACT would do.

I'm halfway through getting a root canal done on a fairly small tooth and it's gona take 2 appointments. My dentist said that a bigger tooth can take up to 4 appointments. I feel that my dentist is pretty honest and trustworthy so I reckon yours is at it - 8 times definitely seems excessive...

I had a root canal back home due to a painful abscess. It was one visit to drill and drain it and another visit 4 days later to put a titanium pin and filling in it. Aside from 4 days of Vicodin and 3 weeks of an antibiotic, that was all there was to it.

I went 9 times for one root canal. That seems to be the protocol here, I asked around Korean friends. I paid 15,000 won for the first visit with xray, 4,000 won for each of the next 7 visits, and 350,000 for the crown on the last visit. This was a tooth at the back of my mouth with three roots.

They really don't believe in pain relief. The anaesthesia was so mild and the pain meds they did give me were worthless, I ate a lot of icecream.

It was cheap but I wouldn't have another root canal in Korea unless it was another emergency

Just had 2 done. RC 1 took one visit for the whole procedure and temporary cap, then a second to fit the actual crown. RC 2 took one visit for most of it, a second to secure it with a post and again a final one to crown it.

This is a US trained & licensed dentist and I'm paying the full (full) fare. That might factor in.

A tooth typically has three to four canals. Sometimes they can be difficult to find so require further trips. This is normally because of pulferation (sp) that builds up during inflammation (if the tooth is very sensitive).

If they do not find the canals (and therefore remain not examined and thus could contain bacteria etc) and your tooth is still sensitive then you can either see a specialist (very expensive wherever you go) who uses a microscopic device of some kind or you have the tooth out. But people who are quoting 8-9 trips for one tooth that is absurd to me because by that time they should of deduced whether or not the canals are accessible or not.

Im in a messed up situation at the moment as I have just shelled out on a crown which might not be needed because fitting for the temporary crown has revealed increased sensitivity in that area. Shizzer!
