@drcrazy, I doubt being a (add a list of positive words) would persuade the labor board more than a contract would.
Surely someone has had problems with airfare before. Anybody? |
I think you are missing the doctor's point. The nice words are not to persuade anyone to do anything. If the new boss were nice she would pay the return flight. Why should she have you for all of a contract except for one week and not feel responsible to help you out by paing the return fare? If she would, then positive words would be (kind, fair, gernerous, etc.) If not she would be (unkind, unfair, stingy, etc.)
Let's say, for example, you have lost your wallet in which you had a large sum of cash, as well as very important items. Someone finds it and returns it to you. Do you HAVE TO give that person a reward? No.
If, you did not give a reward you are (unkind, unfair, ungrateful, stingy)
If, you did give a reward you are (kind, fair, grateful, gernerous)
Now, do you "Get the picture?"
Does anyone else agree with me?

This is what I meant. However, now that you think about it, when someone buys a company they also are buying the workers contracts. And UNLESS she made a new contract that said she will not give you air fare home and you signed it, then she MUST honor the contract THAT SHE BOUGHT. I am sure she knows this. |

As stated go to the Labor Board.
They can mediate or arbitrate it out.
You have a lawyer with you at the board meeting but that way it doesn't get bogged down in Korean Courts that make American lethargic Courts look like bullet trains. |

@cert43, I just want my flight payed for. Yes, I did get a prorated check for the one week I worked. To your other questions, my current boss has been very good about everything else. She plans to pay the severance, too. She claims she payed my old boss the money for the flight before he left but he just bought the cheaper one-way ticket. He disputes the story. I have been emailing him but I haven't gotten very far.
I will call the Ministry of Labor. Does anyone know if they handle things about flights or just salary? |

English teachers that can't read are my favourite. |
My pet peeve is when they can't punctuate a sentence properly. My ninth grade English teacher cured my problem with the comma splice, run-on sentence. I don't know how anyone can seriously claim to be an English teacher when he or she is ignorant of basic sentence structure and punctuation.
There is, of course, a reason why the Korean forum requires a separate login from the rest of the Dave's forums. I am a well seasoned traveler, and one of my first rules is for the foreigners to stick together. Otherwise, the locals will take advantage of us all. There is a disturbing need for some here to attack or insult anyone who experiences a problem. I find that kind of behavior both unprofessional and immature. |

ok.
-So did they pay you overtime wage? This would be only last thing.
Go ahead and contact the labor board ( if you want).
but I really doubt they are going to do anything (as
your boss is following Korean law). |
