Any list of America's great regional foods is incomplete without the addition of the Cincinnati 3-Way.

That may keep the weight down, but if eating whatever you want means eating a lot of unhealthy food, than you will still have a lot of junk coursing through your system, slim or not. And that can't be good.

Well what worked for me is I never deprive myself. If I want a burger, I eat one. If I want some ice cream, I eat some ice cream. I have been on every diet and fitness program under the sun. Then I watched some videos and its all about having a calorie deficit.

Then once I started biking alot, I noticed that my rides when I had eaten fast food would suck, but if I ate a decent balanced meal I felt awesome. I just hate people getting hung up on organic this and that. These are usually the people who are always getting sick too. I don't mind what people do, but I think people need to realize that food and diet isn't as complicated as people make it out to be. To each his own. But if a fat, cheese loving, whiskey and beer drinking, smoker, like me lost weight with this method, anyone can.

When I ate organic/local everything back home (either from my garden or the farmers' markets), I was sick maybe two or three days out of the year (my yearly sore throat). Here, without the availability of truly clean produce, I'm sick a handful of times a year with colds (which I never had back home), aches, etc.

We are both pretty much on the same page then. I do not deprive myself either, but was just pointing out that being slim does not necessarily equate to being healthy. What we eat affects more than just our weight, hence the way you feel biking after eating junk food. Just saying.

BTW, I'm definitely not depriving myself of beer and cheese and I am pretty much in the best shape of my life.

Anyway, Cheers to your good health!

Americans are the #1 marketers of everything. That's made the country rich, but has had some negative effects including food.

Scientists have found that the pleasure centers of our brains are hot wired to get excited over 3 types of food:

1) Fat
2) Sugar
3) Salt

Because there ingredients were hard to come by in ancient times, man became excited when he consumed them.

The major food companies know this so they design meals to push our buttons. That's why the burger (fat & salt), fries (fat & salt), and coke (sugar) is so appealing. This is basically catnip for us.

So all that unhealthy American food is not an accident. Add large serving sizes to the equation and things just get that much worse for the obesity problem.

Great food porn in the beginning of the post followed by boring words that are in no way even describing delicious food towards the end.

So, here's more food images: http://foodporndaily.com/

I know many scoff at this, but there is actually a lot of validity to it!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/food-addiction-could-it-e_b_764863.html

"Imagine a foot-high pile of broccoli, or a giant bowel of apple slices. Do you know anyone who would binge broccoli or apples? On other hand, imagine a mountain of potato chips or a whole bag of cookies, or a pint of ice cream. Those are easy to imagining vanishing in an unconscious, reptilian brain eating frenzy. Broccoli is not addictive, but cookies, chips, or soda absolutely can become addictive drugs."
