Where's a good spot to track down a nice pea coat for winter, something that says..."Das Boot" ?
I saw some at uniqlo for cheap. I've heard rumours of military surplus shops around..? |

I asked my sis to buy me one from a thrift store back home. The last one that I had cost me $2.50 US and I wore it to threads. I don't think I've ever had a warmer winter coat than that one. |

They're fairly common. Saw some at H&M. |

I saw some at Costco for a reasonable price, and some more at Lotte for an unreasonable price, but if you can use e-bay, you should. |

Last year, I bought one from Home Plus for about ₩60,000. However, it was thin and mostly unsuccessful at that whole keep-you-warm thing.
This time 'round, thinking a little ahead, I got one from UNI QLO for ₩149,000--methinks, but thereabouts. This one fits snug as a hug and, I predict, will perform better than last year's mistake. |

Thank you for teaching me something new. I had no idea what a 'pea' coat was. I had to look it up. Before anyone attacks me for not knowing what it was, i guess climate has something to do with it. I'm from Luxemburg where our winters are relatively mild. Hence my lack of knowledge regarding types of winter coats.
For those of you who also aren't experts on fashion, here is a useful link below describing the pea coat.

Not that it's particularly important and not that not knowing what a pea constitutes is a crime, but Luxemburg's winter climate is definitely cold enough to warrant the donning of a pea coat. Not sure why I needed to write that. |

The question is, where can't you buy a pea coat? Uniqlo, Giordano, H&M, Zara just for starters. If it sells winter clothes, it probably sells a pea coat. |

If Pigeonfarts link is correct, why apart from fashion would you want one.
I prefer a thick coat that goes past my butt , down to my knees is ideal, that way you are kept much warmer. |

Well, for one thing, peacoats don't really look warm enough for me, and second, they are NOT pretty...they look kind of manly...me likes pretty and cute things...^^ |

I had one custom tailored in Itaewon for 420,000 won. It's thick cashmere with a silk lining. Let me know if you need my tailor's info. |

Custom made and base in South Korea. The website says discontinued, but they can still make them. |

Hi, I just arrived in Seoul today. I live near Seoul National University and will work in Daechi 4 dong, gangnam gu. I did not bring enough winter clothing and it's freezing. Where should I begin to look for a pea coat (not too far from where I live/work)?
All I'm looking for is a warm pea coat that is very long (down to my knees, and I'm tall). Single-breasted with the buttons hidden, no zippers, no buttons or anything on the shoulders, maybe pockets on the outside. I got a pea coat at Old Navy for 60 bucks a few years back that met that description and it was my favorite jacket, but I lost it. You would think this wouldn't be hard to find, but since I lost it, I've looked everywhere for a jacket fitting that description and haven't been able to find one. The ones that are single-breasted and plain are never long enough and the buttons are never hidden. Any advice? Could I find that jacket here? Or should I just buy one on ebay? Or should I just get a tailor to make me a nice one? I don't know how I feel about dropping 400 bucks on a coat. |

I'd be tempted to spend money on a good cashmere coat. It's the sort of coat that will last a really long time. However, cashmere is one of the most expensive fibers on the market. A nice wool coat will last a long time without costing quite as much and once it gets broken in a bit, it will feel like the warmest, softest blanket that you ever had. Camel hair is good too. |
