I have a laptop with the American three prongs. Two short thin metal pieces and a centered third round metal piece. This, obviously, doesn't fit into the Korean plugs here.

Where can I find the adapter to fit it into a Korean plug here? The only adapters I find are just normal two prong American adapters. I need the adapter, not a convertor.

Any suggestions? Thanks! Smile

They have universal adapters at Homeplus for about 14k, and at Yongsan (outside) for about 5k.

just use the two prong adapter, that's what I've done for years, no problems thus far.

Or just get a 220 volt cord. You can pick those up at yongsan for less than 14k, and you don't have to worry about the adapter falling off/losing it, plus it looks classier. Also, I wouldn't use just the two prong adapter. The ground plug is important, ESPECIALLY on a 220 volt system. higher voltage arcs easier, grounds are much more important.

as someone else already mentioned, you can use the two prong adapter just fine. it should be tall enough so that the 3rd prong doesn't get in the way.

Yep - If you've got the kind of AC adapter that has a detachable 'wall side' cord, just get a cord with the Korean style plug on the end. Super cheap, fool proof. Find at any hardware store. Got one for a Dell and one for an HP netbook when I got here and I'm truckin' along.

True, but again, I HIGHLY discourage this. I've worked in electricity since I was five years old and the ground plug is important. The higher the voltage, the more likely an arc and if you don't use the ground plug, it can damage the equipment and injure the person. Please, don't do this. Get the proper cord/adapter.

Especially since there is really no reason to half ass it - it's easy to get the right thing.

If there's a ground, ground it.

True, you've been lucky so far, but why push it? The grounded adapter only cost 2 bucks more. Why risk frying your laptop just to save 2 buck?

Besides, the round grounded plugs fit nicely into the socket and when you pull them out there's very little chance of you accidentally touching the two prongs while they're still live.

And for a few bucks more, you can get a whole new cord. Most of them are universal now. Just take in your current north american one to be sure that the one on sale will work.

When I first arrived a little while back, I walked into a Samsung store with my laptop's adapter cord, pointed to what I needed on a display laptop, and walked out with one for ₩5,000.

Any place that has laptops can get you one Very Happy

They might have them at the little airport shops, it's worth a look. If nothing else, it's super easy to find one in the city. Keep your eye out for little hardware shops or electronics places.
