the stickies on the JRDF front page cant be up -to date are they? if not - shouldt they be deleted? (for example - 'New E-2 Guidelines????' which was posted 3 years ago...)

also, how do you make a new sticky?
I noticed a canadian had posted today a step by step guide for canadians trying to get an E2.This is a great idea for canadians. Shouldt it be something that should be sticky?

I am trying to get info together for an english version of this topic - i would like to see it stickied. But is there any point if it wont be deleted when its obsolete - it would be giving mis-information.

etc etc

Stickies are supposed to be self updating by adding new information at the bottom of the thread as the information changes.

If there is nothing new, then either no-one has bothered to update it (easier for newbies to just start a new thread) than to actually read what is already here.

If a thread is particularly useful it can be stickied (not often) or moved to the FAQs (frequently asked questions) which nobody bothers to read either because the newbies ALWAYS think their particular situation is somehow unique (it isn't) so they start a new thread to ask their question rather than actually spend the time to read and learn.

Instead of a sticky there should be a FAQ with links to all of the relevant threads that were previously deemed "sticky"able. Much less clutter.

I dislike most of the stickies. If they were just lists of info or links to other threads on a particular topic, then they'd serve a purpose.

As it is, if you post a thread on a topic related to a sticky thread, it's closed and you're asked to post your question or comments in the sticky. The problem is that sometimes the question is city related or related to another topic. By starting individual threads, the poster is more likely to have someone notice his question and reply. In a sticky, fewer will reply. And then that question and the answers get lost in a long 20page thread. People read the first few and last few pages of stickies and the rest just takes up space.

Ttompatz, I'm curious, are you a mod here? I'm starting to think Dave gives you a stipend to post here.

You are just johnny on the spot with great answers.

A guy like you should be president. No nonsense. No emotional rhetoric. Just honest facts.
