My friend and I are considering visiting another country (or countries, if time allows) during winter break since AFAIK that is the longest break that we get as teachers. With cost, time being constrained to a week, and weather as important factors, which would be our best bet? With having done very little research so far, I am leaning towards Japan but am concerned about the cost and also the weather since I'm thinking it would probably be just as cold and snowy as Korea. Would probably be nice to go somewhere a little warmer. Any insight is appreciated.

Definitely Thailand. Friends and I flew Seoul to Bangkok for about $500 a piece last year. It wasn't the best deal but it was okay at the last minute.

If you've only got a week I'd do Bangkok for a day or two of partying, then head south to Phuket, Phi Phi, Ko Samui, or any other beachy paradise.

If you want to party, go to Ko Phangan, not Bangkok. Actually, if you want to relax, go to Ko Phangan too. It's the 20-30 year old place. All the others are over built. Ko Phangan is kinda a dump, but a cool, party dump. Even better if you go during the full or half moon parties.

Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are probably your cheapest bets for easy trips over the holiday break. You can also head to the Philippines.

Check airasia.com for flights to Kuala Lumpur from Incheon.
Check cebupacificair.com for flights to the Philippines.
There are several lines that will get you to Bangkok on the cheap.

The benefit of those three is that they are relatively cheap places to stay, whereas Japan, while cheap to get to, will destroy your wallet while you're there.

Cambodia or Laos are other options, but the tickets are a bit pricier than the other places I mentioned.

Taiwan is also fairly cheap to get to - and even Jakarta or Bali can be if you catch a good deal.

China

Even if you're American (and thus have the very high visa price), you still probably won't spend much more than other places. Tickets there are cheapest. Just make sure you're eligible for the visa (you can't apply if ARC expires in less than 6 months and you have not been to China in the last 2 years).
