and starting in Mid-December,as opposed to August?

Is there even much to do?

If I remember correctly, winter camps take up most of the 2 month

break?

depends on the school.

You'll probably have vacation all of January and effectively half of February, with one half of Feb the school being closed (though you'll likely have to deskwarm) and the other half consisting of school being open but you won't be having any classes. It's weird this year, because the Lunar New Year falls in the beginning of the month instead of the middle so I'm not sure how they'll break things up.

you should have no more than 2 weeks of camps in Jan. (though once again, this depends on the school, not gepik) If you have more, you're getting shafted. Essentially, anything more than 2 weeks of camps during either winter or summer vacation means you'll be getting screwed out of your paid vacation time, which you can only take when school is closed, ergo during those winter and summer vacations. (though sometimes the break may be 5 weeks, in which case they can jam you with 3 weeks of camp)

if I were you, I'd make sure to take 2 weeks of vacation in Jan and go somewhere warm, because come summer vacation, they'll have camps for you, but it'll be your only other opportunity to use up your other 2 weeks of vacation before you contract expires in Dec 2011.

I have the same concern. I start my GEPIK position coming Dec. 1st and was wondering about that time of the year is best for using your vacation weeks.

since you get 4 weeks for the year, typically what the school will want you to do is to take 2 weeks during their winter break and 2 weeks during their summer break. Ergo, you should take 2 weeks in January (or Feb) and another 2 in August.

December is a good time to start. You can meet everyone and be eased into the job before the end of the school year. Just remember that it is the end of the school year so there will be new classes of students starting in late February. There may even be some changes with the teachers.
