I am in the awesome process of getting my criminal background check from the U.S. Part of that is being fingerprinted at a police station. I went to my local office and not only did the 19 year old kids have no idea about the new laws, I don't think any of them have ever fingerprinted anyone before (a lot of giggling and shoulder shrugging). The prints look OKish to me, but I just heard that a bunch of people had their fingerprints rejected and sent back. Considering how long the process takes, I'm worried that the background check won't be completed in time if my fingerprints are rejected.

Does anyone know of a police station in Busan - more of a head office maybe - where the staffers are generally more aware and more capable? Or if anyone else has any experience with getting the the U.S. federal background check while still in Korea please let me know.

Thanks Smile

I went to the Haeundae-gu police office near centum city. There's a foreigner affairs office where they speak some English and were very helpful.

Am in Seoul, not Busan so I know this advice is a bit generic, but...

I went to a local police station. They did not do anything there other than a lot of head scratching-- but they did give me enough info for me to understand I should go to one of the main offices (which happens to be 2 minutes up the street) where the CSI offices are located. There, the officer spoke almost no english but once he saw the fingerprint card he knew what to do (even though I don't think he ever completely understood why) and did a very professional job of doing the fingerprints. Whole process in his office took 5-10 minutes.
