Medications are fine, but don't waste the space on shampoo. They have lush and other posh shops if you need something fancy. Do pack toothpaste if you're finicky, though.

Toothpaste here is okay. |

ok, i'm going to bring 2 small sealed boxes of painkiller, 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and 1 toothpaste.
and soembody said 20kg????
surely each airline is different, i think Emirates has a 30kg allowance.
well, there's go some of the books i was going to bring.
i'm bringing my husband's shaving gel as well, it doesn't weight much and as for the terrorists thing, in england, such products have to be in your main luggage, i.e. not in hand luggage, so the size of the shampoo bottle wouldn't matter.
but yep, need to save on lugguage allowance now. |

Check with your airline for the luggage allowance. The cost of being overweight is far more than the cost of buying a bottle of shampoo or a few t-shirts after you arrive.
side note: most airlines have a 20kg limit on "free" allowance and a maximum weight of 30kg for any given bag (but I haven't checked Emirates specifically for their allowances and limits.
Most airlines also have a limit of 5-7kg for your carry-on as well BUT your laptop is NOT included in that nor is your purse or camera bag (if for example you were bringing a DSLR) with you.

I agree with other posters about the shampoo, although I usually bring some of my own because there's a certain brand I like. You can buy some premium brands here, though there certainly aren't as many choices as back home.
I can't stand Korean toothpaste; it's way too strong and burns my mouth, so I always bring a few tubes with me from home. Ditch the cardboard boxes so it's easier to pack.
Shaving gel is available here as well, though it's WAY more expensive here than it is back home.
Of course, those liquids and gels need to be in your checked luggage. And they do weigh a lot, so if it ends up making you go over your free baggage allowance, then you run into a cost/benefit analysis.
On most flights from the States, you are allowed 2 free checked bags, each a maximum of 20 kg. From other countries, it's usually just ONE free bag (max 20 kg), though some airlines do allow more. Check with your carrier for their exact rules.
Aspirin and such are available here, but if you use them regularly, you're going to pay a LOT more here than if you buy a large bottle at Wal-Mart or something back home and bring them in.
Korean customs doesn't seem to care at all about stuff like that UNLESS you're bringing prescription stuff with narcotics, illegal drugs (heroin, cocaine, marijuana, etc.), or the dreaded DIET PILLS. Food items are mostly okay, as long as there are no FRESH fruits, vegetables, or meat items. Canned stuff is usually fine, although I think beef is still forbidden. You're only allowed one bottle of alcohol (max 1 liter), but I've gone over it before, declared it, and they simply said don't do it next time. |

i don't drink alcohol, 9muslim) so that's ok.
i was advised by my agnet to bring some snacks of food, as i may be put up a motel type of thing for a few days if my apartment isn't ready. so i might bring a few cereal bars and a small bag of cereal.
i'm flying from the UK. so we're not limited to the number of suitcases, just total weight of our lugguage. |

| I've never had luggage searched either on arrival to Korea or leaving and returning for vacation. But, I've had several pieces of mail from the U.S. opened by Korean customs officials before reaching my door. |

Well, if you have explosive diarrhea and like to blame it on your co-workers, then you and fromtheuk will have something to bond over. |

Just want to say congrats.
I hope everything works out well.
Just fyi.
Remember to bring money for food and incidentals for the first month or so since you wont get paid for a while. You can ask others how much to bring. |

What's the point of that? Change the pounds into won when you get here. |

As long as you don't bring Scottish or Northern Irish notes, you'll have no problems. |
