The article makes the point that Koreans don't differentiate btwn. soldiers/civilians when it comes to xenophobia.

KOREANS DO NOT WANT FOREIGNERS(Western or otherwise) in KOREA.

Bottom line.

The article nowhere makes that point.

Even Lee-Eun-Schmuck hasn't come out and endorsed that position. Geert Wilders makes Lee Eun-Turtleneck seem like a Democratic Moderate on Immigration.

Most Koreans I've encountered are happy to have foreigners around here as long as they don't act like disrespectful nincompoops.

I know some Koreans can be intolerant, unreasonable, and flat out racist to foreigners. Not all are. In fact many are not.

I also think that while its nice to vent about the 50 ills of Koreans on here, perhaps we could think about things we could do ourselves to improve relations? I mean venting is great and all. It accomplishes absolutely nothing. You know real solutions, not "Stop being racist!!!!"

I mean there is the whole CBC thing...a mountain out of a molehill if there ever was one. The only change advocated there doesn't involve us, it involves Koreans being tested as well. So essentially we don't do anything differently.

What's some real change that can actually be done accomplished and doesn't involve a magic wand and actually ends up changing OUR actions.

Maybe examine some of the behaviors that some of us might engage in that are wrong? Surely if Koreans are guilty of some faults as a group we are as well?

Or are going to claim that we are not?

You should read the article again.

Why bring G. Wilders into this? A politician who dares to stick up for Israel and denounce Islamic terrorism?

Oh, right, by that trick you deflect analysis(if you're capable of it)of KOREAN racism.

Koreans are NOT "tested" like barbarians are regarding employment on that peculiar peninsula.

I hope you meet Ben Wagner, et al, someday.

Mr. Wish??!! Not a clue there, mate. I DO know that the The Conservative moniker was your sock puppet til you were outed...but I digress.

.

This only proves that you know no such thing, I know who The Conservative is and TC has never been my sock puppet. Better stick to things you can hope to convince others of instead of blindly throwing mud and hoping stuff will stick.

But then that's always been your schtick hasn't it? Anyway I'm done with you. You don't want a reasoned debate you want to race-bait. Not interested.

*"Can we get a link?

There IS a double standard. People think it's perfectly 'okay' for a bunch of mid-40's women to swoon for Justin Beiber or that idiot from Twilight, but its 'creepy' for mid-40's men to give the same actions & behavior toward say- Miley Cyrus (and Brittany Spears before she went insane). Suddenly its okay for women to act like perverse animals yet men must be held to a higher standard. Crying or Very sad not fair Wink"

What is the double standard? Most of these women have been tried and convicted, and served time. In the case of Debra Lafave (the hot blond), the parents did not want to press charges.

In terms of the law, there is no double-standard. In terms of natural biology, there does seem to be a double standard, doesn't it? In that, if you read most of the comments on these female teachers by males, they would give their right arm to have had a female teacher like them. But, on the reverse side, most females are just creeped out by male predators. Well, I guess that's a dichotomy dictated by biology and circumstance isn't it, like all the geeky, ugly guys suddenly becoming superstars in Asia. Not fair, but it does seem to be the way of land doesn't it? It's just that this one tiny aspect seems to favor women more than men. Oh well, less than 10 % of women are predators anyway, so maybe that has something to do with it.*

that website's a shoot-off of the Onion right?

Judging by the comments sections, though, I'm not 100% on how much of a satire it really is(or how many people think it is a satire).

Anyways yah, men are sex fiends and women are petite flowers.

Chances are that guy's mind was in the gutter before he got it on with his teacher.

Why'd she do it? Was it about the sex, or was it about emotional fulfillment?

I think a large part of the double standard has to do with differences in motivations. A male teacher in her shoes would be seen as solely being interested in the young woman for the sex. Young woman=nubile and desirable.

But a female's motivations in the same circumstances seem less obvious. I mean, he was 15 right? I'm guessing he wasn't exactly a superstar in bed...

According to the link that previously post. This woman would not get accused for having sex with his 15 yo student but for adultery

"경찰은 현행법상 B군이 13세 이상이며 대가 없이 서로 합의로 이뤄진 성관계이기 때문에 A씨를 처벌할 수 없어 수사를 종결했다. 하지만 유부녀인 A씨의 남편이 신고하면 간통죄로 처벌할 수 있다."

I think many of you might still remember the American female teacher who was sent to jail for having sex with her teenager student, later got married with the boy after she was out of the jail.

I think it wrong when the society mistakenly lable individual behavior as a threat to the whole society... considering in this case, the woman is not a man predator, and she has not done anything like this before either.

I would accuse the news media for privacy invasion if I were the woman.

This should be changed to 'SOME KOREANS DO NOT WANT FOREIGNERS IN KOREA'. I have met many Koreans who believe that foreigners should be welcomed in Korea - as long as they respect its laws and culture. In fact, I often wish that more people adopted the same kind of attidude with resepct to immigration in the west.

Maybe ridiculous, but accurate. Can't charge her with sex assault against a minor since the age of consent in Korea is 13.
