It looks like the best advice is to keep my mouth shut and keep going until the end of this contract. I would like to stay another year. I like my job and I like my living arrangements. I like my new boss, too. But I have also started looking for new jobs back in the US, just in case.

g-ese,

Good luck. I hope the next four months go smoothly.

This is probably a good idea.

g-ese,
Sorry to point out the obvious, but what planet are you from?
Your an employee, nothing more nothing less. The business affairs of a company have nothing to do with you and they have no requirement to tell you about any business decisions they make.
Do you have a monetary stake in the business? Are you a partner or shareholder? If not, what the hell do you expect. Do you think that they should inform you of you private business decisions? Some foreigners in this country act like they are more important in the scheme of things than they really are. Get a grip man. If someone interrrogated me about my private business affairs I would probably warn that person to mind their own business.

As for the argument that you are sponsored by an individual not a company I'lll pose a question.
If you work for a public school, university, or company how can you be sponsored by an individual?

Fidel,

g-ese runs the risk of being fined and/or deported because immigration does not have the correct or current owners name on the immigration documents. Immigration officials may assume g-ese is working illegally and receive appropriate treatment (punishment).

A person's name is on the contract you sign. It does not matter if it is a company, small school, high school, college, or university. The president or owner is responsible for you. He or she has control. He or she owns you.

So if the person who signed my contract was to leave his/her position, I have to get a new contract and new visa? I don't think so. My contract clearly states that I am employed by my school not by an individual.
However, be that as it may, my beef with g-ese was that he has unrealistic expectations regarding being informed to private business decisions being that he is only an employee and not a monetary stakeholder in the business.

I work at a public school and my visa is sponsored by the headmaster on behalf of the school. If you look at the blue form you get when you get the visa the sponsering name of the organisation and the person are both listed. So you are tied both to the person and the organisation. Doesn't matter what your contract says as immigration law supercedes your contract. Eg. if your contract states that the owner may farm you out at their discretion they can't legally do it with out first getting immigrations approval. So given that by selling the school the owner is effectively terminating your contract (as most contracts aslo mention visa sponsorship) then he is obliged to tell the OP under the termination clause.

As for 'priate business dealings' A failure to notify him (and immigration) means that they are both (owner and employee) breaking the law.

Our school isn't that big. Also, don't you think it is realistic to know who I'm working for? And I have to ask, what planet are you from. Didn't you read the original post? They both claim to be my boss. They are both saying don't listen to the other. I would say that this knowledge of who my boss, who my immediate suprevisor is, is relevant don't you? By the way, I am a SHE not a HE.
