"The Engkey is linked to and controlled remotely by a human teacher outside the classroom, whose face appears on the screen of the robot. The robot links students to teachers located as far away as Australia."

Good LORD, where do I sign up for a gig as a remote control robot teacher?!

It'll smell better than some teachers out there (Korean teachers included).

Nice quote from the article -

"Children feel the robot is their friend," said Bum-Jae You, head of the Cognitive Robotics Center at KIST. "Robots are very helpful to enhance the concentration capability of children in class."

Jeez. They can feel a robot is their friend but not a foriegner because foriegners are strange and alien lol... Laughing

Just jesting, just jesting....

That's a funny point Laughing However, the novelty of having a "robot" would probably make a lot of students pay attention (at least at first).

"It may be better to have a telepresence robot from a highly skilled teacher than to have just an average teacher in the classroom," Balch added.

How exactly will they ensure that the guy on the screen, who could be thousands of miles away, is a "highly skilled teacher?" Teaching English remotely to students who can't smell you or even tell if you're wearing pants sounds like a dream job for the least qualified teachers.

Will the bot be dong chimable?" If old engkey cant take a little poop needling now and then the kids will be missing out . Can Engkey play hangman?" What about getting hammered on soju with the boss .

It's those special qualities that make a good waygook teacher. Things a machine will never be able to do. Could a machine make a sex video with a young girl and put it up on the internet with out her knowledge?" I think not!!!

If so, then I must STRONGLY reaffirm my desire to do this for a job. (I currently teach online, and yes, I often do so sans pants or sans personal hygiene.)
