I came here only twenty days ago and fell deathly ill to the point that I was let go from my hagwon. I don't know how it happened and I don't care at this point because I'm hoping to leave in the next few days while I'm staying in a hotel (I'm paying for). Do you know on an e-2 if you have at least ninety days total being in the country? I'd like to recover here and possibly enjoy it for a few days but not if I'm going to be jailed which would be the icing on the cake.
any help would be amazing. I've sat in a dark hotel room for a few days now trying to recoup and slowly but surely it's happening. I didn't want to go to the hospital because I wasn't here long enough to even get health insurance and when I did go I got a shot that I think may have caused this. I've never felt this bad in my life. I've experienced nothing but a breakdown in communication since I've come so the hospital by myself scares the shit out of me.
thank you anybody |

You definately do not have 90 days on your E-2 visa. I think you only have 2 weeks after your visa is cancelled to leave the country. I'm sure someone will answer soon to either confirm or correct that because like I said, I'm not sure.
If you are American, you do have 90 days if you are on a tourist visa. If you want to leave Korea and come back in (same day is ok) then you can stay 90 days. But the key there is you have to leave. You are not automatically transferred to a tourist visa just because you lost your job.
On the other side, sorry about being sick. Many people get sick when they travel to another place until their body builds up an immunity to the germs. Me and my friends call it the newbie flu. Different people react differently.
Hope all works out well for you. |

14 days should be plenty. It's only been since wednesday I was fired am I'm finally starting to feel at least capable. Just for all that work and money to get here and then for it to go like this is...it's the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I'd love to enjoy Korea. I'm 28 and have lived a very long life already and traveled extensively but this is sort of blowing my mind. I was dragging two suitcases down the street nearly fell over and then (excuse me daves) slightly crapped myself and basically crawled into a hotel and threw my money at them to help me to a room where I've been very slowly recovering for days. I don't think it was the flu. I've been wracking my brain to figure it out. I was already a little sick. Cough and a little tired but man I just don't know. It literally felt like I was poisoned. Sorry I've just got to tell this story. |

No, I didn't mean it was a literal flu, I just meant you have a bunch of random symptoms. Tired, headache, muscle cramps, stuffy, etc. |

it was way worse than that. I mean near seizures at night and never sleeping... hallucinating...body parts going numb to the point it took every effort to revive them and things coming out both ends. I was too much of a liability for the school at that point so they pretty much had to let me go. I knew that coming into hagwons (and this was a really good one) but it's still a business so after a week of missing a few days of school and seeing I was not getting any better and I am brand new it was pretty much no choice for them. I don't blame them. I don't even have health insurance yet. anyways this is exhausting me. thank you very much for even replying. |

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the shot. Get health back, go talk to Hogwan boss. You may have picked up a bug on the airplane. The reason I say talk to the hogwan boss, because you never know what might happen. Dont give up! Sorry this happened to you. Take care of yourself. |

OP. Many Asian 'bugs' take a few days to travel through your body - then like magic - you're up and running again.
There's many things that may have caused your temporary sickness: food poisoning (plane), touching infected surfaces at the airport/in Korea, your immune system going into hyperdrive on arrival - or a reaction to the hospital shot, etc.).
Don't worry, if you do get better very quickly, it may pay to go back to the hagwon and show them that you are work ready. You may get your job back (if your visa hasn't been cancelled), as it is going to be expensive for them to get a new teacher.
Good luck. Keep us posted. |
