Have any (both foreign) married couples ever opened a joint bank account in Korea?

My hubby and i would like to have a shared account to make life easier, i've been looking to see if it's possible and can't seem to find this info on the web

any suggestions? tips? stories?

Joint accounts don't exist in Korea; neither do self written paper checks (checking accounts).

It is possible to get a joint account. Keep asking around to different banks.

It will have to be a dojang account, and each person named on the account needs to have their own seal and all seals must be used for each transaction. It's not going to be more convenient in the way that you're thinking.

I second the above, keep asking around. It's possible.

Apparently my husband and I would have been able to have a joint account at KB Bank, except that as I never changed my maiden name on my passport before coming, our 'official' last names are different, so we had to have separate ones.

The people on a joint account do not necessarily have to be related. They can be club members or something. Try Kookmin Bank.

They wanted papers to prove we were married, and we didn't bring our marriage certificate to Korea.

This is all what my head teacher told me, so I mean, it could be totally wrong and it not be the case at all. lol

As another poster has said, it will NOT be more convenient. They will not give you an ATM or check card. Every time you want to withdraw money using the bank book you will need to show both signatures during bank operating hours. Good for saving money, but bad for convenience.

Thanks everyone - I think we're gonna settle with what we've got...it seems more trouble than it's worth!
