Hi,

I'm interested in talking with you about your Korando if it's still for sale. I've been looking pretty hard for a Korando or galloper, so it's cool that I stumbled across this ad. I am curious about a couple of things about your vehicle.



1)Is there any rust?

2) How's the engine run? (Loud, rough idle, etc.)

3) Does the transmission kick when shifting gears or when it down shifts going up hills or when passing?

4) Are there any outstanding tickets or taxes that have not been paid?

5) What did you pay for insurance for the year?

6) Do you have the registration papers and is the vehicle registered in your name?

1)Is there any rust?

Yes, Hidden under the driver's door, it cannot be seen from outside, but it is still there. The garage asked for 150'000 to remove this piece, put a new one, and polish the whole car. If no one is buying am going for it sometime soon.

2) How's the engine run? (Loud, rough idle, etc.)

Engine is cool, you just hear its sound on high speeds (more than 110 KM/h) otherwise, soft sound inside the car, regular sound outside it.

3) Does the transmission kick when shifting gears or when it down shifts going up hills or when passing?

Regularly NO, however, recently i noticed it kicks when down shifting to the second gear only. I am going to check it out tomorrow, probably it is a matter of gear sensor.

4) Are there any outstanding tickets or taxes that have not been paid?

No tickets, not taxes, all paid on time. If i recieved one before selling the car i am committed to pay it before i regester to anyones name.

5) What did you pay for insurance for the year?

This year: 730'000 because i was 26 at the time of making the contract, and it is my first year of driving in Korea. As you might know, with age and years of driving without accidents insurance becomes less every year. I expect to pay 560'000 this year though.

6) Do you have the registration papers and is the vehicle registered in your name?

Yes, the car is in my name, and registered to me. If you pay car price 1 day before the registration, or transfer to my account just before the registration, i can save you some money at the registration window.

i also own a korando. have to say, most reliable car ive ever owned. always starts first time even on really cold days.

just wondered who you went with for insurance as im coming into my 3rd year and pay more than 700k with AXA (though this covers 2 people).

Insurance is not all about the age, but the car model, engine size, number of accidents and how severe they were. moreover, the insurence company plays a roll, for example: Samsung Insurance asked for 1.3 Million for my first insurance year. Further, if you know a car dealer he can save you 10% of the car insurance.

1.3 mil for insurance that is extremely high. My first vehicle here was insured through samsung and it was 850K. I changed companies and it dropped to 750 and that was with a accident. So you should be looking around 850K to insure this vehicle for a year.

As i explained before, my first insurance was around 730'000 a year, i assume this year it will be less than 600'000 because i had no accidents, and i am older

In this country age has nothing to do with it for foreigners. It is driving history or lack of a driving history in Korea. You are treated as a new driver.

And if you are older than 30 and you got a discount for that then more power to ya.

Also the kicking of the tranny when it down shifts to 2nd is common with older Korandos. I found that if you replace the motor mounts and transmission mounts it does help with this a problem a bit but it does not solve it. If you can fix theis by changing out the sensor then let me know but from my research and also talking to mechanics this is a common problem and way the Koreans fix it is by replacing the tranny (800,000)

Well, about the age, this is not true, me any my friend bought the same car with the same model, but he got less insurance because he was older. Maybe AXA does not consider that.

Second, the kicking problem is common not in old cars only, but i heard from people here that it is common in the Santa-fe 2006 too. The solution then was the sensor.

Last but not least, you don't need 800'000 to change the tranny, you can get a used one with lass then 300'000 with the Mercedes Benz motor, i accidentlly discovered that yesterday when i was looking for a used gear sensor.

sounds like you got it covered then. Let me know if the sensor fixes it, I am truely interested to see if that is a fix or not. Has there been a lot of interest for this vehicle or is your asking price to high? I am thinking of selling mine in March?

Many people are interested, and the price is fair, take a look at http://www.encar.co.kr and you can find cars that have almost same model and options with 2.3 Million or more.

Just wanted to write a quick post before class. I have a Musso. The transmission also had a little kick. I was told at the Ssangyang shop that it has to do with compression. They replaced a hose the other day and the engine mounts. It drives as smooth as a new car. It shifts and downshifts with the greatest of ease.

These Ssangyang engines are great. I love mine and can't believe this has not been sold yet. It's a great price for a beast that will run forever.
