Has anyone renewed their Canadian passport in Seoul lately? Do we need two notarized photos with photographer's information and signature on the photos' backsides? If so, then where is the closet passport-quality photographer to the Canadian Embassy? Is the process rather straightforward? And what about current E-2 visa: I assumed we have to get new visa sticker at Immigration. But just as long as your ARC is valid, then can't see there being much of a problem.

The application you make at the embassy is the SAME as the one you do at home. It is NOT a renewal but a completely new application.
You need:
2 photos (as per spec) there are a couple of photographers that they give you to choose from who know what to do and are close by.
Guarantor or $50 and the form in lieu of the guarantor.
Application form and fees.
References (4) who are NOT related to you (they will call them to check).
As to the E2.
AFTER you get your new passport you make a quick trip (in person) to the immigration office. (take a couple copies of your passport information page as well).
You need your new passport, old passport, ARC and application form. Make the report of the change of passport.
IF you had a valid re-entry permit they will move it to your new passport and update your computer file.
If you did not have a re-entry permit they will just update the computer file (nothing will be added to your passport since you are not going to re-enter Korea).
If you want to get a multi-entry permit, this would be a good time to get it. They will do it while you wait. Just tick the extra box at the top of the form and add the 50k won fee.

| So, should I just call the embassy first, ask where the photographer is located? And what about the Guarantor? Are you they in the immediate area of the embassy as well? And, I thought it was only 2 references? Wow, 4 now?! Anyway, thanks for the info . . . |

| PS Do they just work out the exchange rate at the embassy, or do you need Canadian currency? |

Last time I needed something done there they gave me an account number and I had to pay through a local bank (in won, of course).
Also, *bleep* their working hours. Seriously. |

So the Canadian Embassy doesn't handle cash anymore? Should I just go ahead and bring like a couple of hundred Canadian with me, just in case?
Just to be clear. The only difficult thing about being issued a new passport in Seoul is a) specific-type passport pictures b) guarantor. In Vancouver, the photographer is in the same building and the guarantors are within walking distance. Am I right to assume it's basically the same here? |

When I got a new passport last year the embassy website gave info about a recommended photo studio about a block from there. It was easy.
Also at that time they accepted both won & cdn dollars, but if they've switched to bank transfers only, any atm will do. |

Last time I changed my passport all I had to do was log onto "HiKorea", scan my new passport, and submit. It could all be done electronically. But I didn't have a multiple re-entry stamp, which as you so correctly state would require you to go in person to immigration. |

| For the life of me I can't find the link to the photo shop near the embassy. I looked at the website last month and remember seeing the little map with the embassy AND a qualified photographer nearby. The only map I can find now only has the embassy on it. And Kinko's. |
