I saved 50 million by cutting money to Scotland, Northern Ireland, overseas aid to India and the Queen and the royal family. I left the NHS and education alone. I also cut out trident and cut the TA back to 9000 (would be mostly medics)

Watch all these lunatic Americans come on here and cut spending by 250 billion! Laughing

Doesn't matter where you are from - everyone is free to play!

Here's things I cut:

Department of Work and Pensions
-Stop free TV licenses for over-75s (.55 bn).
-Increase state pension age by 1 year (10 bn).
-Means test disability living allowance (11.7 bn).

Department of Health
-Nothing.

Deparment for Education
-Scrap SureStart (1.5 bn).

Ministry of Defense
-Withdraw from Afghanistan (3.8 bn).

Communities and Local Government
-Cut local government grants by 25% (7.15 bn).
-Scrap area based grants to local authorities (4.5 bn).

Her Majesty's Treasury
-75% cut. I'm sure it's easier for me to be pragmatic about this matter due to not being British, but when one's country is struggling to make ends meet, the first thing to go should be expenditures on your show-poodle monarch. That money can be used much more productively.

Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills
-Scrap the BIS international programme (2.53 bn).

HM Revenue and Customs
-Cut child benefit for higher rate taxpayers (1 bn).

10% cuts to Scotland and Wales (~5 bn).

25% cut to Department for Culture, Media, and Sports. Cut intended to come from the "Sport" section of that purview; citizens can fund sporting events they want to see through direct payments (~1.2 bn).

50% cut to Department for International Development. Generous aid distribution is fine when there's a surplus, but when the budget is coming up short, foreign aid is a totally reasonable focus for cuts (~3.5 bn).

-----------------------------------------------

That brings me to 62.87 billion cut without any serious difficulty, and that's without any sort of reform to prevent tax avoidance. I'm sure a lot of these cuts would be unpopular, but it's better than borrowing your nation into financial oblivion.

I remember we had an American version of this some time ago here. I liked the British one better due to having both more options to cut, and the option to cut a specific % of the budget for any given department to represent your own unlisted cuts.
