That being said, I advocate that anyone in the "legal" category report ANY illegal teachers they come across. It's become a hobby of mine over the years.
Illegal workers (teachers) have two primary detrimental effects on me personally.
1. They create unfair competition in the market and they lower wages.
2. They make those of us who are legal look bad, and create more fuel for the "unqualified bad English teacher" fire.
I also love to see those flyers, because they can easily be used to track down illegals, and are also great evidence to hand over to the immigration investigators that will check them out, and most times, help them to convict the offender.
And here's any phone numbers you'll need:

One last thing, an F visa IS NOT a free pass to break the law, as some have suggested. I'd say you could ask a few individuals who's names were given to immigration, sadly (for them), they aren't around anymore to tell the tale. |
I agree 100%, keep up the good work Netz, I will be doing the same. |

| If one has an F-2, would they need to fulfill the new requirements for e-2 licensure, such as apostilled degrees and an FBI criminal background check, for every school? I know someone posted that one would for a public school, not a hagwon, and perhaps a university. I'm just wondering how strictly this practice would be followed. I am going to get married in a few months and wonder if I need to be worrying about all that extra junk or if I can just focus on my more important preparations. |

psymist congrats to you. I am in the same situation. I really would like to know what the rules are. Once I get my F-2 visa, what things will I need to get a job?
If public schools still want a criminal check, then do they just give you a Korean background check? Or do you need a friggin' FBI check? And what about unis? Hagwons?
Once you get an F-2 visa, it is better to use craigslist to get a job? Or just go through a recruiter to get a hagwon job?
And no, I don't want to just sit on my ass. I want to work while I'm living here. |

Yeah dude, your F-2 is the ticket to ride. Start teaching privates for
50,000 won/hour. Design and print flyers. Pay the apartment office
to stamp them and then post them on the bulletin boards near the
elevators. Costs between 30,000-70,000 per complex. When I do this
I always get 1 or 2 new teams. Each team, if taught once per week,
equals 200,000/month. Teach 20 hours a week for 4 million/mo. Easy,
peazy lemon squeazy. |
E2 holders might not like to hear it, but that is the most honest advice I've seen on this board in a long time.
I hold an F visa and have done this with similar results. While I have graduated and qualify for an E2, nobody ever checks; I've been asked what country I'm from. The most important thing for many parents is they can talk to my wife in Korean.

And who's that poster above that can't do the math? He get's 50/hour and teaches a team 4 times a month, so each team pays 200K.
So teach 4 hours per day * 50K * 20 days per month = 4 Mil.
I've had groups pull out of hogwons and make a team for me. Those hogwons offering teachers 2.3/month for 8 hour days can rot. |
