can anyone share information about places to get fingerprinting done?
in particular, the RCMP background check that canadians now require has the following requirements, but there's no pre-made form to have someone fill out:

Quote:
rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant
the name and address of the police agency
the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

does anyone know if there is a standard form that the korean police services that includes all of these things, or do they each need to be requested individually?

The standard Korean fingerprint forms at the police stations do seem to include the rolled and flat impressions, however everything is in Korean on the form. The nice people at the police station translated everthing by hand on the forms for me, apparently though if you can get to the Canadian consulate in Seoul they can give you a fingerprint form (you have to go in person though)

You can email the Canadian Embassy here in Seoul and they will mail you out the form you need. Ask for at least 2 forms just to be safe. It took only a few days for them to arrive by snail mail. There are several police stations in Seoul that can do the fingerprinting. I chose to go to Namdaemun (as was suggested by the Embassy) because it is large and figured someone there might speak English. A helpful recruit guided me to the right office and took me through the process. His English was pretty good. The officer doing the fingerprinting screwed up the first form, so that's why it's good to have a second one. In the space where they state what agency is doing the fingerprinting, they naturally wrote it in hangeul. I asked if he could also write the name in English, but he refused. Hope someone in the RCMP can read hangeul!! The whole process took about 10 minutes. Now let's hope everything is done correctly and the RCMP gets it done in time!

Just to give an update, I got my RCMP background check in the mail today (I mailed my request off Sept 30th for anyone wondering about turn around time, and had it sent to my Mother in Canada who then forwarded it to me)

So prints on the local Korean form, with an English translation on the form, are acceptable for the background check done by the RCMP.

So if you need to get this done go to your local police station, with a coteacher if you don't speak Korean, and ask where the nearest station that does finger-printing can be found. Then just get the finger-printing done on the Korean and have them or your co-teacher translate the important parts of the form, and have them include the station address and name of the officer who supervised the fingerprinting. After that you should be good to go.

I can't guarantee you'll get the quick turn around time I got, but apparently it can be done quickly (I did actually mention on my application that I needed it ASAP for a visa extension since I at the time I didn't yet know about the postponement of the new rules, not sure if that made any difference though)
