| Nice to see teachers being a role model to the community. Way to represent! |

So the OP got drunk and stayed the night at her co-teacher's place? That's it? It's not even a "got-drunk-turned-lesbian" story?
Disappointing. |

I wonder why HomerinBusan and Urbanmyth seem constantly determined to paint the foreigner in Korea as a drunken yob? What's up with that guys?
Could you be jealous of those young guys out getting drunk and chasing skirt and generally having a lot of fun in Korea?? i.e. Doing what normal young men do!! |
Well I wonder why you seem constantly determined to lie about my perceptions.
Like Mr GHBusan I am taken (not married but engaged FYI). So no, not jealous in the slightest. It's just embarrassing. Why? See below.
I view things individually. What I was pointing out in this thread is that the Korean government does not seem to do so. Only a small proportion of teachers have been found to commit criminal acts yet all E-2's (and all F-types who work for a public school) have to provide CBC's/drug tests.
CPN wasn't even ON a E-2 or F-type visa for that matter. Yet the knee-jerk nailed the E-2's primarily.
Rational and proportional responses seem to be in short supply when it comes to managing foreign teachers these days. We don't need any more bad press. |

Being taken doesn't prove a lack of jealousy. Seriosuly, do people even say 'taken' anymore?
This thread has a been an excellent ride. Too many classic posts to note them all. |

| The vast majority of NET's I've met in Korea have been very respectable folk. I bet most of our readers would say the same thing......we do meet the occasional freaky waygook....but for each of those guys I've met dozens of very normal and nice people. |
I think this is kind of true, but I also think there are a lot of waygooks who push the envelope a little or even a lot more here than they would back home... I guess because of the whole 'Western is exciting' thing.
Ideally, everyone who comes here would respect the local customs and not make a big deal out of adapting-- but I've heard too many people say 'no way, I'm not going to change this or this or this', so it becomes all about them and not about the culture/society around them.
Things like getting upset because you can't show your shoulders, or because you need to shave, or because you need to comb/cut your hair and wear semi-decent clothes, or because you're being too loud, or because you're smoking and your students can see you... or because you're expected to show a little humility, or do it their way instead of your own, or show high regard for your bosses/elders-- these kinds of things are integral to the experience/culture and too many foreigners flat out refuse to do them, or get all jerky and take offense when they have to do it.
But those are like the level 2 foreigners... level 1 being perfectly willing to make these genuinely few small sacrifices in order to maintain harmony. Level 3 are the people who seem to actively antagonize and disrupt the harmony whenever they can, or through habits that they really should give up/temper down... they're the worst. |

You got me. I am not a person at all, in fact I am a computer program designed to test artificial intelligence.
I am horribly jealous of all the real people in and about Korea having experiences I never will have.
My one saving grace is though I know how to spell "Seriously" |

TheUrbanMyth = my mind blown.
You like lax immigration standards for teachers while also not liking teachers who booze and act retarded. Does not compute. I'm trying really hard to understand (srs). |
I do not like lax immigration standards. I support the CBC and drug tests. And I would support them even more if they were implemented for ALL teachers. (I've gone through this very discussion before more times than I care to remember).
I do NOT support WHY they were implemented.
One can support a policy but not the reason(s) behind it. |

If only you were able to spot very obvious typos as well as you can spell. |

Perhaps if you had spotted the at the end of my post you would have seen that it was intended to be tongue in cheek.
I should have thought the bit about the "computer program" should have tipped people off.... |

As a grammar and spelling Nazi, you need these types of disclaimers. It helps you from being 'widely discredited'. |

Indeed it does. Can't say the same for my detractors though... |

| Your detractors know what the term means. You didn't. So, keep pointing out typos and calling yourself a Reading Comprehension teacher. |

Well, he sure is consistent....you're right there.
I'll respect him a bit more when he changes his pompous and arrogant avatar and location sig which basically lets us know that he thinks we're all dummies and he's so smart. |
