Middle of the longest school break of the year = PEAK season travel prices.

It would be the same as ticket pricing in the US in July-Aug.

yeah, so how would you label Korean August ticket pricing then?
which was also preposterous.

Those same tickets are about 1/2 that price come March 6.

Summer break (August) prices would be like Christmas or Spring break pricing in North America.

IF you want to travel cheap, do it when school is IN session and not during a holiday period.

The economy is recovering according to financial markets performance so the airlines follow suit to capitalize through raising fares. While this is a jobless recovery, the airline industry among others responds to financial market conditions; not how it really is for the those of us living and working the Main street lifestyle. Of course, very few on Main street are jetsetting around, it's the people in the money and careers.

The idea is people with money investing it have more money to spend on travel, golf, and other recreation if they are doing good at the bank. (which they are now) If the stock market takes a dive this Fall or Winter, then expect to see decreasing fares to encourage all those taking a hit to spend money on travel. Even if they still have ample money in the bank, they may still not travel if feeling a pinch on their investment portfolio being down. It's really all psychological instead of anything factually logical. If you don't like what you see today, try again in a month or two.

Dude I don't know what day you were looking, but I'm planning to fly Air Asia to KL then on to Vietnam. One way from Seoul to KL is 275,000 and return trip one way was 150,000. That seems pretty cheap to me.

I think you just have to keep checking the airlines websites for sales. If you are looking at Air Asia, then you don't mind the budget carriers.

Cebu Pacific had a sale on 10/10/10. I believe you could fly from Busan/Incheon to the Philippines for about 100.000 KRW round trip. You could then get a ticket very easily from Manila to another destination. Air Asia, Cebu Pacific, and Tiger all fly there and go to other Southeast Asian countries.

I don't remember the total for our tickets from Busan, but I know it was less than 1.000.000 KRW for 2 adults and a child (we bought a seat for our child, so 3 seats total). Our final destination is Koh Samui. Not the most direct flights, but we have more than a month there, so I wasn't too worried about losing 2 days. My wife can always go shopping for the day in the philippines and my son and I can lounge in a pool.
