Which recruiter are you using? Mine said the same thing. I don't know that they really understand the process because we are mailing these requests and tracking is the only proof, but really what kind of proof is that? I sent a copy of my FBI background check and they still wanted more proof. I guess it's just a learning curve and we are the guinea pigs.
I finally got my apostilled FBI check in the mail yesterday (mailed it FBI 8/7, got it back about 2 weeks ago and immediately sent to US Sect of State for apostille). My recruiter did send my docs to EPIK (I called yesterday to confirm) with only tracking number as proof.
It was $80 to send those docs to Korea and I only sent them without FBI CRC because they said it was ok (as long as I had apostilled state CRC) so I was pretty frustrated when they said they weren't sending them to EPIK right away.
Since my documents have already gone to EPIK, I think I might wait to send my CRC until I get my TEFL certificate (15 hours to go...). My recruiter said I need my certificate apostilled. Does anyone know if this is true? |

I'm pretty sure you don't, the only thing you have to prove from your TEFL/CELTA qualification is the amount of hours you completed, it should explain it on that document they sent out after the interview |

Mine is still processing through the FBI but I was able to obtain a state background check in the meantime to hold my place. My recruiter sent an email to me stating that because the FBI background checks are taking so long EPIK will use a state background check to hold your place...as long as your FBI check is in by January 1 (that means physically AT the EPIK offices in Korea.) I sent my information to my recruiter which she passed on to EPIK a few days ago. So far no issues.
As for the FBI background check I was told that a person won't be processed into their system until week 7 (which for me is the 2nd monday in November) and from there they can possibly tell you where your background check is at. I didn't sent a prepaid envelop with mine which I probably should have but I've been hearing that the checks were getting done at around 7 weeks.
On another note, I've been reading other posts that other people are having trouble getting their FBI background checks apostilled since it is a federal and not state document.
I guess we'll see. |

So yeah...I just found out I passed the interview phase. (Whooo)
I just sent out my CBC to get it apostilled today, tho. :\
The earliest I will be able to get everything out will be the 15th, I think. How'll that affect my placement? |

You should be fine as they don't normally close placements until December time. |

Hey
So I applied directly to EPIK, and was given a number to keep updated on my progress through the screening/interview. (The google spreadsheet)
Last night I got an X under "Initial Screening Completed", but I haven't gotten an X under Interview Scheduled. I haven't heard anything from EPIK.
Did anyone else have a lag between completing the screening and getting an interview?
Do they tell you directly if they don't offer you an interview? |

I passed my EPIK interview and the woman on the phone told me that it would be better if I could get my letter's of recommendation on official letterhead. I re-requested it from both referees and they said that it was a personal recommendation done on personal time and that they can't use the official letterhead.
Not sure what to do here. |

Seems a bit odd. If you're asking someone for a professional recommendation, which is entirely appropriate (if you have worked/studied for them) I can't see why it isn't part of their job to write it...and putting it on the company letterhead shouldn't be an issue!
In other news, my documents have arrived at our recruiter in Seoul (ESL Planet), now waiting for them to forward on...fingers crossed! |

I had a lag, it was about 3 or 4 days before they put an X in the interview scheduled column and then another 3 or 4 days before they sent me an email telling me when the interview would be. |
