Hey everyone, hope everyone is having a delightful day.

Anyways, so I recently got my ARC and was wondering what I can do with the Alien Number thingy that they give you? What's it for?

I tried to sign up for a phone and they said I couldn't, I tried to sign up for www.naver.com and it said my number wasn't a KSSN so wouldn't accept it...

So what is it there for?

Cheers,
ReeNah

You can sign up for Naver just fine with your ARC number.

Not trying to pimp my blog (I barely update it), but that's the method I used to sign up.

I use my card for everything I do here pretty much.

And you DO need it for a phone, they just don't want to deal with you because you don't speak korean. I dealt with the same thing when I first got here. Go in with a Korean and they will set you up with a phone...or go to Itaewon or Yongsan Electronics Mall where they speak English.

I use it for banking, telephone, etc.

The main purpose is that it is your ID. Technically, you are not supposed to be without it, and it's a lot safer to carry it around than your passport.

And yes, there are plenty of people who don't carry it, but legally you are required to have it on you.

You can get a phone on contract with you. You just had a bunch of jerks in the store you went into. Just go into a different one. They're on every other corner here. Most won't give you problems.
