I don't think that many schools actually pay the average of the last 3 months salary....the same thing goes on at our university. We make a lot more money than our base salary with overtime, but our severance pay each year is still just our base salary.
My guess is that fighting this would only give you headaches....take the 2 million and be sure to specify in your next contract that your severance is your average pay over the past 3 months. |

Thank you for the advice and information, everyone. I think I'll choose to avoid this battle. Lord knows I've had enough headaches here already!
I'll chalk all this up to a lesson learned and be thankful for what I receive. In my case, I'll be going home debt-free and will have a nice emergency savings fund to tide me over until I decide my next course of action career-wise.
