|
|
| My hair is in need of some serious work. I'm also terrified of the orange hair/yellow hair dilemma which is apparently a possibility here. I've read up on all the threads about going into Seoul and what places to check out, but wondered if there is anyone on this board who can suggest a place in Ilsan? I'm willing to do the trek into Seoul just curious if there might be something a bit closer to home/more convenient. |

Ummm..
There is no such thing as "blond" in Korea.
Even if you do find a place; it will not turn out to be the same kind of pretty
Westernized blond, that we are all accustomed to seeing here.
It's an ugly and VERY expensive upkeep, that invloves ALOT of bleach.
If you are set on staying blond; then I would suggest using products from the
West.
PS.-There's a Sally Beauty supply in Fuokuka. Might be better to just pick your toner and lighter kit up there. |

| I went to the Green turtle in Itaewon to get my highlights done. He did an awesome job and speaks English. All my friends with blonde hair get their hair done there. Its not that expensive (I think 60). |

Yeah. Micheal did mine blond, too.
He is the one that told me about all proxide that is contained
in Asian Hair Dye (Although, it was mainly specific to Hana).
I would think that the componets in the H20 wouldn't be
chemcially strong enough to do an even PH balance.

I live in Ilsan and I go to Hongdae to Hair N Joy. I always go see Lucy whether or not I need a color or cut. I decided after much thought to go blonde the other week, and she did a great job on it.
It's a little expensive, but I always recommend them. Most of their clientele are foreign and they have all worked abroad.
I've yet to find a place in Ilsan that does a good job on anything. If I were to point you in a direction though, I'd say go to any of the Aveda salons. They are everywhere |

| Thats great to hear all those responses, thanks. I suppose it's a tossup between the green turtle and hair and joy then. I think i'm leaning towards Hair and Joy. Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to get a head of blond highlights at Hair and Joy? Also, on their website I see a bunch of different stylists, most people reccomend Lucy but am I good to go with any of them or what? |

I think you have 2 choices. Johnny or Lucy, the other stylists there service primarily Korean customers. Johnny and Lucy at least have experience cutting western hair, know what westerners want and like. There are of course no guarantees, just like stateside. Sometimes your hair comes out a little better than other times even from the same stylist.
getting blonde highlights in Korea is like playing with fire, you have to accept that going in. Then you'll have to decide whether you want to play with a flamethrower by getting it done outside of Seoul or if you want to play with a blowtorch in a place that doesn't cater to Westerners, or accept playing with a normal flame in a place like Hair and Joy.
I personally quite like Lucy and the job she does. can't speak for Johnny. |

| Update: Went today (sunday) and had my hair done. I got a full head of highlights and lowlights, and Lucy did a fantastic job. The experience overall was amazing, and the scalp massage was fantastic. The only gripe I have was the cost--- 160,000 won! Seems a bit steep but I didnt really have a point of comparison. I will likely go back again, as I will only need a half head of highlights next time and it should be a bit cheaper! |

yes, they're expensive. It's a great little business they have, since they could never charge those prices to Korean customers.
but being comfortable with what's on your head is important enough to me so that I'll overpay if I'm not comfortable with alternative options, or none exist. |
