I tried to give a heads up about this job before, but since it wasn't posted on Dave's at the time, the mods unfortunately removed my post.
University: Inha University
Location: Incheon (easy access from Seoul by subway + bus)
Hours/week: 9
Salary/month: 3 million
Vacation: 20 weeks
This job is a keeper if you can land it.

I am willing to bet this job does NOT include an apt nor does it include housing allowance. Therefore 3 mil isn't that great.
What about office hours and 'additional' over time hours? Some unis look great on paper but in reality not so.. u could be working mandatory overtime despite what it says in your contract. some unis will say its your choice but in reality they always try to push it on you.
Perhaps someone who works at this uni could shed some light on the working conditions. |

That is a great job. Not many teachers get a masters though.

Makes me wonder if they provide housing, key money, etc. What are the perks? |

Ahhh.. don't kid yourself. There are tons of teachers out there with masters. And tons of teachers with an F2 to go along with that masters.
Most people I work with are F5 with a masters and some of them are in a ph.d program. |

Gideon,
1. Who are you kidding? It's not a great job because 9 hours a week for 32 weeks isn't worth the money?
- 288 teaching hours for 36 million = 125,000 won per hour
[And that doesn't include all the extra days of vacation that were already mentioned in the thread.]
2. You're "willing to bet" it doesn't include an apartment? If you actually read the thread, you will quickly notice that I've already clearly stated it doesn't.
3. Overtime? Not mandatory.
4. Office hours? Yeah, a few, but easily before and between some classes.
"Someone to shed some light?" Umm, not to be rude, but are you a bit slow on this topic? I started this thread because I have accurate knowledge of this job. I've given information during this thread and responded to questions with clear answers.
The reality is what the title of the thread says... it's an "excellent" job. |

Sounds like a good position.
Korean Ambition, how do you know so much about this job?
Do you work at the university?
If you do, is it a good place to work? |

| I am sure that some universities are different....but office hours here are mostly a joke. Out of the 6 hours I am required to have per week, on average I have a student in my office for 10 minutes of that time. So all of my planning and grading can be done during office hours. |

Sofaking,
The job used to be mine, and my leaving had nothing to do with the job. The department didn't fill my position last semester.
You're teaching second year credit classes. There is only 1 other teacher in the department and we shared a big office. He's a really good guy and we worked and got along really well together. That was actually a really enjoyable part of the job.
Admin wasn't always too organized, but you grumble at the time and then move on. If you don't take it too seriously, then it's really not a big deal. After the initial admin issues get covered, then it's smooth sailing.
Best part is zero micromanagement. Once you realize that, it's much easier to deal with the admin problems that might crop up; the department dean/chair just wants the classes taught without problems.
If anyone has any more questions, ask about the job in the open forum and I'll answer.
I repeat, I really liked my classes, and wish I could have stayed. If you live somewhere that you can get to the university easily, then you will probably really like the job.
Cheers |

Job calls for a Doctorate degree
So I guess if 1 applicant applies with some type of Doctorate PhD or EdD etc they will probably win the prize |

Following your logic that should be the case for every single University job in Korea. Ergo if you have a doctorate you have a meal ticket.
I slightly agree. But if they were any kind of an employer with brains they would choose the person most capable and with the most RELEVANT experience. Which may or may not be the person with the PhD. |

| sounds like a great job! i don't see why people are knocking it. who cares if it's in Incheon and you have to travel to work 3x a week (that is if you're in Seoul). No big deal. Some people are way way way too spoiled in Korea. Just take a look at how some of the PT Korean profs get treated, and how much they travel to go to work just to teach a few classes a week. |

I think you might have misread the job posting.
The requirement is a Masters degree and 2 years experience.
(At the bottom, it says you have to send the BA, MA, and PhD documents, but that's not the requirements. I think that means if you have it on your resume, you need to send the proof.) |

| I'm interviewing for this job next week. They want a teaching demonstration in Business English but I have no idea what level of instruction they want. It sounds like a great job, so I'm trying to build a lesson that is adaptable. Any suggestions? |

How did it go? And what kind of topic did you end up doing in your demo? |

I'm sorry I couldn't respond earlier, but I was busy and therefore couldn't follow this thread.
If you were giving the demo at the interview, my suggestion would be to teach as if you were teaching to native-English business students. Go fast, use high-level information and content, describe very interactive, unique and interesting teaching methodology, and treat the interviewers (the group of professors) as elite professionals. [This means you should want to impress them... not make them fall asleep bored while you pretend to teach a class of students who have trouble with English and don't have any business knowledge.]
Once again, sorry for delayed response, but maybe it will help someone if they have another interview coming up. |

Job Position: Non-Tenure Track Position
Contract Period: 2 year contract
KoreanAmbition, is the 2 year contract renewable?
if so, what's the upper limit?
in other words, how many times can you be renewed in a non tenure track position at Inha?
tia! |
