Honestly, this job is a piece of cake. I worked at a movie theater before this, and there was so much downtime and monotony. This is the same, but I get paid much, much more. In regards to the hours involved with being a teacher here, it's the same as any other job, so unless you're only going to have part time jobs for the rest of your life, just man up.

uhh, welcome to adult life?

Yeah, I'll second this one.

I taught in Taiwan for a bit during college and they called our generation, the 'Strawberry Generation' because we are soft and unhardened. Meaning we lived shelter lives where hard work wasn't as important or expected. We quit jobs easily cause they aren't 'enjoyable' - take the easy road and always wanting to do anything in comfort. And I agree.

It's time to grow up and put up with it - stop crying. No one really likes to work, but it's something you have to do. If not, go win the lotto, become a pro gamer, or go live in your parent's basement. Welcome to the real world, Good luck.

I work for a hagwon. I also am thinking of leaving. It's been four months and I've been homesick since the third week. I'm trying to keep things in perspective but the eight months remaining stretches ahead of me like a black hole.

If you got homesick that quickly, you should probably just bail.

North American university students can be some of the most entitled people on the planet. Not if you worked straight through college, but if you are used to 15 hours of classes a week and a bit of studying on the side - of course a real job will seem intense.

Tough it out unless you have very solid alternatives.

Korea is not a difficult place to live, especially Seoul.

Honestly I don't miss much from home... close friends, family and my cat of course, but that's about all. But it doesn't sound like your biggest problem is homesickness, since you're asking about changing jobs.

I think my current, 1st year hagwan job is more difficult than the average one. But I also think I'm learning a lot more from it as to how to be a better teacher. Also, the work load has varied a LOT since I started. You might have periods of more or less activity to look forward to.

As to the ease of the job... I've had more jobs than most people at my age and I know that some are absolutely soul-sucking. Even the best ones demanded my constant attention and effort for my entire time at work (which I didn't object to, btw). I come to Korea and I can use my iPod at work. I'm generally left to use my own creativity in my lessons and I'm left to manage my time however I see fit. This job has SO much going for it and, well, I'll leave the further career opportunities and "extracurricular" benefits for some other time.

Sorry about your problems, O.P. But out of curiosity - what are your hours? Are you working one of those 10:00 - 7:30 jobs that I would see posted a lot? I don't know how some people have the energy to work these jobs. I taught 10:00 - 6:00 at my last crappy hagwon; that was bad enough.

Get a boyfriend , a girlfriend or both.

I agree with some of the sentiments above; welcome to adulthood.
