Any news on any Froyo updates for Korea? I'm surprised Samsung hasn't released it in Korea, even thought he company is based in this country, and the Galaxy S is Samsung's flagship phone in Korea...

Alright..so there pros and cons of both the I- Phone and Galaxy but as far as I can see now.. . the safer option is the I- Phone 4..

I have seen that it is possible to get a two contract on these phones with an E 2 Visa but with the Galaxy, I haven't seen anywhere you can get a contract phone unless you sign up through a Korean friend..

Anybody know much would the Galaxy cost upfront? Is it much or any cheaper than the I- phone??

I am going to go along to a global store this week and find out exactly what they offer..

Another one mulling over this phone at the moment and very much leaning towards buying as soon as new models start shipping with froyo.

I've read on this thread that the galaxy s is being sold unlocked here.

Not completely understanding the whole 3G deal. My question is if I buy it here and end up moving back to the UK before my two year contract is up (and providing I pay up the remaining balance for the phone etc), will I be able to use it just as well in the UK as here (same 3G speeds etc)?

Sorry for the completely noob question but hey, we all got to start learning somewhere Smile

depends on the network used in the UK. For example, in California, 3g only works on ATT. It doesn't work on T-mobile because of the difference in 3g networks. ATT uses the same network, supposedly, as SKT, so it should work. Most likely it will work on a 2g network for you though.

Galaxy S upfront? I went to a store last week and asked about that. By the time I mentioned Galaxy S, the seller automatically suggested a 55k per month plan. And with that, the unit will cost 11k per month for 2 years. Upfront, she immediately said "it's expensive" but when I insisted, she said mentioned a number around 800k+. I still am wondering why it works that way, though. I thought it would be the other way around (cheaper upfront). I asked a Korean friend of mine about that and uhhh... I didn't understand his explanation. But I was surprised there's a pre-paid Galaxy S on another store. 500k but it surely looks second (or more) hand.

Anyway, I'll wait until the upgrade comes and read people's comments about it here, before I finally get one for myself.

So please keep posting.

You still have to make a large down payment so it's not just 11,000/month over two years.

11,000/month x 24 = 264,000 for a phone that's 750,000 on a 3 month contract and over 900,000 otherwise. If you read the fine print of the contract you'll also notice the cancellation penalty is equal to the unpaid portion of the phone based on the original purchase value. The 11,000/month with no down payment proposition makes zero sense... even if you consider that SK is obviously making a profit off of the services, it's nowhere near enough to cover the remaining cost of the hardware and Samsung sure as heck isn't selling them at a loss.

I'd like to add that a Korean friend who bought her Galaxy S close to launch paid 290,000 for her phone plus 22,000/month for the hardware on a 2 year contract, there may be better deals now but that's what it was for Koreans at that time.

This phone giving me more problems.

First I can no longer connect to my wi fi network at home for some odd reason. It makes the connection, like it has the icon like it's connected. However the internet doesn't actually work on this phone when I try to go to a webpage or what not.

Second, I try to connect to Kies, it says there's a new update. It goes through some files it needs to update, then it wants to connect, then it says "The internet is not connected. Do you want to check the connection and try again?" Then it never connects.

If the program were right, I wouldn't be able to send you this message over the internet!

The Kies problem happened to me. To fix it, I uninstalled the Kies that I had and reinstalled it from the Korean Samsung webpage. After installing that one, it's been working just fine

What kind of problems are you having with your phones? The only problem I have is that it the touch screen freezes up every once in a while for a couple of seconds. I just have to press the sleep button twice and it works again. Does anyone else have this problem? Will it be fixed with 2.2?
