Privates are so worth it. Your average hogwan pays you around 15-20,000 an hour. If you make 50,000 for one hour's work even with an hour of traveling you're still ahead. Lump 2-3 hours toegether at 50 plus and you make more than a hogwan worker does in a whole day.

Never have been payed 100,000 an hour for a 1 on 1 (to the best of my recollection). Have gotten 75 G lots of times. Used to get 95,000 an hour back in 98 from a elementary school (huge back then). Had to work 1-2 days a week for around 3 hours out of 5. I still say less, than 50,000 I'll stay in bed (although 40,000 for 3-4 hour straight is negotiable).

I did have one paying 100k two years ago. It was on a saturday night, 8-9, which wasn't really a problem as i finished at 7.30(ECC). I was teaching some college girls. Good money for an easy hour.

Now. Saturday. NEVER.

If I were going to do such a thing - I would want 100 000 per hour.

My lessons would easily be worth it.

But - I don't do privates. They are illegal and therefore risky. And more importantly, more than 30 hours a week is too much for me.

Anyone doing privates for less than 40 000 is dumb. 40 000 for the easiest 'conversation' class.

Think it through. It is overtime. You have to travel. The student has no contract with you..they could stop at any time. You have to prepare materials. You have to do all the work - as there are no pairs of groups to give you a break.

The Korean going rate for privates is 40-50 000 an hour and all teh uni student is expected to do is walk the kid through their homework....

If you are any kind of a teacher ( OK - not many people here are) then you should ask for a lot more.

Some of my students were asking me about doing privates - I said I didn't because of the risk and a desire to maintain a private life, but when I said that if I did want to I would charge 100 000, there was a silence.

In the end though - charging more is better business sense. Charge less and you get more custom but you have to do more work....

Charging more also discourages the English speaking friend syndrome - you'll only get people who'll take it seriously.

Well wylde,

To increase your income you could:

a) Do overtime
b) Ask for a raise
c) Seek better paying employement (i.e. change jobs)

Many options besides illegal pvts.... Wink

I did admit just that man!!!! Laughing

If you have a good job and you don't want to change then you can see about overtime or just be happy with what you have.

Money aint everything right?
