I have my prints and am ready to send them in.
How did you have the FBI send the prints back to you? Will they mail them internationally?
Thanks.... |

Thank you for pointing that out.
The CBC (criminal background check).
The results.
The document that needs notarized.
The thing I need.
I hope that clarifys it. |

They sent me mine in a regular old brown envelope. Mine was just sent within the US. Just as fair warning, according to the date on the printout, it took them more than 2 months (almost 3!) from when I sent it in until the time they even started the check. |

Thanks but I need them sent outside the US. I want them sent to me in SK preferably normal mail. I don't want to take the $50 Fedx hit to send them to me so I can just send them back to the state department for another $50. |

I am in Thailand and the only way I could find to have the CRC results sent to me overseas was with a self-addressed postage paid envelope. It says so someplace on the FBI web page.
I went with Fedex, but I think there is a lower cost way to do it with the US Postal Service, using the "click and print" postage (international service option) from the USPS website. You fill out your SESE, pay with your credit card and print it out.
The time for my CRC check so far is:
My outbound EMS tracking number shows FBI received my request on Sep. 13.
My credit card shows the FBI charged the fee on Oct. 29th.
No record from my Fedex tracking number as of now, that the CBR has been sent out, on its way back to me.

You should request that they authenticate the results before they send them back to you.
There's no checkbox for it, so just write somewhere that you need the results authenticated for an apostille. This means that they put some type of official agency stamp or signature on your results. They dont actually apostille it.
Since you're in korea, when you get your results, I believe you can go to the US embassy and get a notary instead of an apostille. |

Thanks, I understand the agency stamp but the embassy CANNOT apostille from everything I read AND your post does not tell me how to get either to South Korea.
But thanks..... |

There is a thread discussing if an affidavit notarized at the US Embassy can be used in place of the apostille procedure here: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=194123&highlight=
It is unclear if an affidavit is still suitable under the new rules or not.
If I were in Korea I would get an affidavit form from the US Embassy and take it along with my completed FBI CRC to the Korean Immigration Office. I would ask them if I get the affidavit notarized at the Embassy, would it be acceptable.
I would then post the results here on Dave's so everyone can know. |

I already sent mines in without a request for authentication.
I already plan to go back to States in December to get it apostilled. Will not requesting an authentication affect me? |

On the FBI website it says you have to specifically request to have the document prepared for apostille they add a seal and signature that you will not otherwise get.
However, If you wrote in your request that the CRC is for a Korean employment visa AND the request is processed by an FBI clerk who is on the ball to know apostille treatment will be needed AND kind enough to send it along for the extra processing, you might get lucky and get what you need.
Don't take a chance. There is some discussion in other threads that people do get a response from the FBI records office via email. Send them an email asking to amend your original application (the bureaucratic speak for what you want) and see if they can still process it to be prepared for an apostille signature. |
