I have a friend who is trying to decide whether or not to buy an iphone in Canada and bring it here and get it activated or to buy it here. So if you have specific experience of the process, please contribute.
specifically:
1. how much does it cost here for a foreigner to get it? --- I have BB for work, so no idea about this.
2. if he stays for two years, can he then use it in Canada/the UK?
Any other info is appreciated and I'll forward it on to him.
Thanks. |

Not going to happen. Korea generally doesn't want foreigners to use their cell service as we are temporary workers and a liability.
North American Models of the Iphone and other cell phones will NOT be accepted here.
You'll have to jail break it and get someone to give you an illegal sim card. |

You might want to do yourself a favor and do a little research before you post so you don't look foolish.
Any foreigner with 6 months left on their visa and a Korean credit card can get a 2 year iPhone contract in Korea.
Any foreigner on:
A1, A2, E1, E3, E4, E5, F2, F4, or F5 can get a 2 year contract as long as they have 3 months left on their visa and there is no credit card requirement.
They can also go to one of 6 KT global stores to get service in English or one of 17 other languages they offer translation services for. there are stores near gwanghwamun, jongno, itaewon, Shinchon (near hongdae), Kyunghee university and Ansan.
Anyone not meeting those requirements can just buy the phone outright if they want.
As for bringing your own, you can do it, but you'll need to pay 300,000W to have it certified to work on Korean networks. It's better to get it here.

Sorry to somewhat jack the thread but what if you have a F4 visa and you have about 9 months left on your visa? I do have a credit card but it seems like I'll be screwed out of getting the decent 2 year deal and having to pay it in full. Hopefully someone knows something to get around this and just get the 2 year contract/deal. |

there are a lot of ways I could answer that, but I guess I'll do it politely.
As I quoted above, and provided scans of the actual brochure, F4 visas only require 3 months left and do not require a credit card to receive a 2 year contract. Go to one of the global stores, order it, wait however long it is for it to come in, go back and do the paper work. Take your bank book and ARC that's all you need.
