Hello,

Wondering if there are any fellow snorers out there. I've snored for as long as I can remember and while, I hear, it's not every single night like it used to be through middle school and high school, it's still pretty frequent.

I don't think you non-snorers realize how lucky you are not to have this problem--it's not simply an annoyance, it really impedes my life at times.

It's ALWAYS embarrassing to go camping or even traveling with people. Hostels and shared community living spaces always fill me with this sense of embarrassment and guilt the next day when I wake up. It's not a problem in my control but it IS in my control to subject others to it with my presence--so I either opt out of trips or have to spend more money for my own (and sometimes significant others) accommodations--they get used to it... I hope.

And I got to thinkin', I could never do anything like join some special forces team or the clandestine services b/c I'd probably f*** up operations with the freight train of sound emanating from my unconscious self. LOL... sounds kinda funny but I was seriously considering joining up with that section of the CIA for the longest time and still have some aspirations to do so.

It's really a pain to live with the snoring. I couldn't even begin to think of the number of trips I've cut short/peaced out on because I just feel bad about it.

I heard a while back a surgeon at Stanford mention something like, "No one should have to live with snoring." There's some kind of operation that supposedly eliminates it? Maybe removing the excess tissue in my throat or something? Anyway, I will for sure get that one day. Almost nothing in this world scares me more than going under the knife, but I'll do it if it means the snoring will stop.

Cue: "Cool story, bro."

I snore too.

Went to the doctor, he told me my uvula (thingy hanging in the back by the throat) was too large, and he'd cut it "a little bit"

I'll keep snoring Wink

My friend snores so loudly its like a buzz saw in your ear. Its getting so bad that people are not keen to have him sleep over. I have heard that a few friends have contemplated smothering him with a pillow in his sleep...

Family vacations with my dad were always tourture because of his snoring...but luckily I'm almost immune to snorers. I'm deaf in one ear, so just sleep on the good one, and booya! I can usually sleep through the night with even the worst snorers.

well, snoring might be an annoyance for the snorer......but it's 10 times worse for the snorers co-habitants!!!

I'm a pretty loud snorer with a wife who hates it so much that we even went to a snoring specialist hoping for a cure....they can offer a few treatments......the operation to remove the skin flap......not guaranteed to work because you can snore anyway......and very expensive CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machines.....over a million won.....we did neither.

She hasn't complained about it for a long time and she says it's becoming rarer. Weight loss decreases snoring.

I had surgery when I was 9. I ground my teeth ever since I had them and also snored. I got my adnoids and tonsils out. You might try that.

I only snore when I'm drunk, not sure why or if it's medically proven but I do. It's not after a couple beers it's when I pretty much pass out drunk. It doesn't happen often anymore maybe once a month but when it does I wake up next to my wife and she has toilet paper stuffed in her ears, i'm thinking "what's wrong with you?"

@ naturegirl321 -- Yeesh. Sounds terrifying but I may just try it one day...

@ J Rock -- Drinking HAS been scientifically proven to facilitate snoring. Something to do with the loosening affect it has on the tissues in your throat.

@ eamo -- Yeah, really horrible for people that need to be subjected to the snoring. Hence the embarrassment and morning-after guilt Sad lol

EDIT: I'm 6'1 ~ 183cm and 170lbs ~77.3kg so I'm not too sure how much more weight I can lose. I used to be pretty overweight and hoped it would abate with weight loss, but it didn't... Ah well.

I snore pretty hard sometimes, but it ain't fun and it ain't all sleep. Sometimes I my throat
gets so dry that it gets red and sore. Sometimes I wake myself up. Sometimes my wife wakes me up by trying to smother me with her pillow.

I use the nasal strips pretty religiously - they work great. Keeps the nasal passages open enough that I can breath better. The problem isn't my uvula or anything like that - its that my nasal passages are too narrow (even surgery didn't correct it) to breath through my nose all the time. Most of the time, I can breath fine, but at night all it takes is a few boogers or a little snot and I can't breath through my nose. Then the snoring begins.

Try the strips - my wife loves them. I've woken up a couple of times as she's strapping one over my nose.

i went to a group outting this summer with my girlfriend and like 14 strangers. there was a bunch of us sleeping in one room and someone was snoring sooooooo loud. i didn't sleep at all. the next morning i was like "damn chris, you snore so effing loud" and he said "it wasn't me, it was her" referring to his gf. then she began to apologize profusely and looked really shamed.

i've never dated or had gfs who snore. is it mostly a male thing? i'm a teeth grinder though. i gots too much stress

Man I snore too. I hate it, and depending on how much the surgery costs I would opt to have it.
