I have lived within a three minute walk from Eungam station for over three years, and I have no idea about these drunk homeless people you are talking about. |
right out of the number... 2 exit(?) on the side of the bulgwangchun exiting north... there's that little mini-plaza/park with benches. Don't know if they were drunk but there's always several middle-aged men, drunk or mentally ill, passed out or talking/yelling to themselves. |

| I would say, based on the defeatist attitude of 'does this SUCK' over 'does this RULE'. yes, it will suck... |

There is a hospital right there. Many patients hang out in the little square. |

I know, and I can usually make the distinction between a patient and one who isn't... unless the hospital serves mentally ill patients which would then make sense. |

| Eungam Exit 2 is also home to the hospital patients. They stand around at night time with their IV's hanging out of their arms smoking and drinking. And yes you often get loads of drunks in the plaza passed out or peeing into the shrubbery or onto the main path. |

I can confirm sightings of drunk looking, homeless looking men passed out in that little plaza. When you mentioned that, I knew exactly who/what you were talking about.
Yeah, on a scale of 1 to 10, it's about a 5. |

It's pretty hard for a neighborhood in Seoul to suck as long as it's within reasonable distance to the main subway lines or entertainment areas and/or doesn't requires many transfers.
Especially if you have a motorcycle/car/scooter. Just get a big, cheap place in a poor area and drive away for fun.
I'd try to avoid the neighborhoods that have crappy, slow subway lines mainly.
There are some lines that branch out(such as the fork at Seongsu on the green line). They can be hella slow unlike the normal lines.
I did a winter camp at one....took 10-20 minutes of waiting each way plus 1-3 transfer to get back home...
Some of the places on the outskirts of Seoul blow....Gumpo comes to mind .
There are some neighborhoods where all the Koreans on welfare live in Seoul...forgot the name....probaly isn't the nicest. |

| I've lived in Yeokchon dong for a year, and I really like my quiet little neigborhood. I'm not far from Eungam station, and the stream is great for walking and biking. I'm also 5 minutes away from nice hiking trails in the hills. It's quiet at night but there are still some restaurants and norebang 24/7. I almost never see other foreigners here and there are few foreign restaurants, but Hongdae is pretty close by train, and Yeonshinnae has a little action at night. I've also never felt safer lving here compared to in the US, and as a woman alone, I walk down dark alleys at any hour and feel perfectly comfortable. I'm moving to a more central area soon, and I'm really going to miss my neighborhood. |

I live in Yeonsinnae. It's great. Whoever said Eunpyeong gu is the slum of Korea is greatly mistaken. Korea is MASSIVE. Get outside seoul and you'll see some poor places.
Eunpyeong gu is cool.
Never been attacked here. |

The Gunpo station area is reasonable, but the rest of it sort of sucks. I would say Shiheung is one of the worst places to live in the Seoul area. Bucheon, Anyang, and Bundang are the best.
If I moved back to Seoul, I wouldn't live in Eunpyeong-Gu. I'd likely stay in Mapo or Gwanak.

I lived opposite Emart in Eungam for three years (2005-2008). Being so close to lines 3 and 6, anywhere of significance in the city is 30-40 minutes away
