Hello.
I understand starting Jan 1, 2011 the Korean gov't will only accept a Federal Criminal Background Check and not a State Wide Check (I'm an American living in CA). My question is, do I only need to perform this service once? And have the results sent back to me, not to the requesting school?
I can't imagine doing this for every school that requires one.
Thanks. |

This is the current status, however, things may change.
From Jan 1st 2011 a nation-wide criminal background check will be required for all types of visa applications.
From Jan 1st 2011 once you have submitted a nation-wide criminal background check you will not be required to submit another nation-wide criminal background check for subsequent visa extensions or visa transfers.
From July 2010, once you have submitted a nation-wide criminal background check if you leave Korea for less than 3 months you will not be required to submit another nation-wide criminal background check when you apply for a new E-2 visa.
This process is for E2 visa's only, however, a school may ask you for a Criminal Background check in the future. In which case, (having already been cleared by immigration to work in Korea, and assuming you already have a teaching position), a copy of the Criminal check should suffice. |
