I'm going to be sending a parcel back to the UK soon with a few christmas bits and bobs in and was thinking of sending 400 cigarettes back too. Has anyone encountered any problems in doing so?

While I'm at it, I want to send about 8 bottles of Soju back as well. I've previously sent 3 bottles successfully - but will 8 be pushing it?

Thanks in advance...

I think that any alcohol (and probably tobacco) is illegal to send in the mail. I don't think it matters so much if you send 2 bottles or 10. What matters most is probably whether they notice.

Probably the same with cigs.

Why would it be illegal? They might have to pay taxes on it though if customs opens it.

It would be illegal because in some places alcohol is illegal. I know that UPS, FedEx and USPS won't let you send alcohol because they don't deal with international laws and such in regards to alcohol. They just won't deal with it. At least, that's what they told me when I wanted to send some alcohol overseas.

Cigarettes, I don't see why not, except for tax reasons.

I have sent 200 cigarettes in amongst other random stuff (inc soju) back to the UK and Oz without any problems. I did this through the Korean postal service. On the little green customs slip I put down candies and socks, no mention of tobacco or alcohol, I figured no point in telling customs about what was in there and I also figured the chances of them checking were/are remote. (I usually put the total value of the goods at w5000)

I don't know about strapping 2 cartons together and posting them though, might be a bit obvious.

Or, you could just declare them as cigarettes on the customs form and pay the applicable duty when you ship them.
