Which one? The guy snorting a kitten? The gif of infinite urinals? Someone else is using the Korean kid lighting his crotch on fire right now, so I can't use that one. |

Do Atkins by the book and run a LOT. You'll drop 10-15 lbs in your first few weeks. No booze, no cheating, or no results.
Then again, pop a brewski or smell a piece of bread and it all goes to hell in a handbag. |

These weight loss threads always crack me up, with how people think they know so much about weight loss, know miracle cures and what not. So many numbers = so much weight loss.
I got a weight loss plan for you. Eat less junk food and more fruits and vegetables. Move you butt. I guarantee you it'll work! |

obviously there is still a lot of money to be made in fadish weight loss programmes - because people still need to ask 'do they work?'.
I.e. there are still a lot of gulliable people out there looking for a short cut instead of getting off their fat, lazy arses and doing some exercise consistently/or eating sensibly past the age of 13...
Incidentally, didnt Mr Atkins die of a heart attack? Not a good advert for his own health program id say... |

| Intensive exercise increases my appetite, so I found weight loss to be much easier with just cutting down on portions and eliminating carbohydrate....and, of course, not drinking. Everybody's different, so I find exercise to be irrelevant to losing weight. |

Agreed that Atkins isn't good over the long term. It did, however, help me take off about 35 lbs. I went off it the right way and haven't gone back to the crap habits that put the weight on in the first place. I get big when I study and back in shape when I graduate.
Anyway, it can be a means to help people who need to take off a load of weight relatively quickly if done after talking to a doctor. The thing is to not bounce back into loaves of bread at a time with pasta snacks.
As other posters have noted, however, the very best way is to change up eating habits and to exercise. With my flexible sched, that's not too much of a problem. For 9to5ers with families, that can be tough. |

I'm not sure if you want to lose weight for appearances or for a health reasons. I do have an alternative proposal though.
Forget about losing weight for now. Go to the gym and start lifting weights. Big full body movements. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press etc. start with the empty bar when possible..there are lots of web resources to learn proper technique. A 5 times 5 program is a good way to start. 5 sets of 5 3 times a week. Different lifts on each day..squats every time.
While you are doing this just try to get plenty of protein, eat more carbs on lifting days less on off days, gets lots of sleep, try to not do too much cardio if possible. Make sure you eat enough so you can contnue increasing your lifts. there are very simple formulae for this based on body weight.
In 4 or 5 months, you will feel much stronger, have more muscle and will be able to get rid of fat quicker. Also you would be surprised at how little your appearance would change even when you gain weight. I'm up 3.5 kg in the last month and a half and I just look slightly thicker(not even noticeable really). My waist is the same size. I eat a lot of dairy, full fat cheese, eggs, whole milk. |

Over time I lost 70 pounds. It wasn't rapid, but it happened.
I ate less junk, cut out most liquid calories (juice and soda) and walked for transportation and to give my legs a stretch.
Wasn't hard, I don't have a great metabolism. |

Hey buddy, you just repeated what I quantified in my post. Eat less junk food = fewer calories in. Exercise more = more calories out. Calorie deficit. You have just stated it in a way that makes it useless to the type of personality that is prone to becoming overweight.
"Eat less" is a floating target. 10 choclate bars is "less" if you're currently eating 11 per day! The type of personality that becomes fat will manipulate that to their disadvantage. However, numbers have no wiggle room. Example - You get 1500 calories per day. If you eat more, you cant blame it on anyone but yourself.
Numbers are about getting real and exact. Ever gone to a gas station and gotten "a bunch of gas"? No, you get exact dollar ammounts or volumes. That's why we have numbers. To make things accurate, recordable, and comparable. |

those pills don't work and they're extremely bad for you. a friend of mine in the states had heart troubles after using some of them and was never the same. she couldn't exercise properly after.
i personally gain weight when stressed. when stressors aren't present, i lose. i lost 25 lbs in april and as of yesterday's doctor visit, i've pretty much kept it off. but i really don't eat crap too often. i swim, play sports outside, go hiking.
exercise. eat right. the soups here are great for you (i just keep the rice away).
i'd hate to be the one where the joke goes, "she makes a beeping sound when she backs up...." |
