So I saw the thread for restaurants in Itaweon, but what about your best suggestions for restaurants in Seoul? If you come for a weekend, where are the absolute best places to eat???

Absolute best? Pierre Gangnaire at Lotte Hotel Myeongdong - or for more affordable but pretty good - The Spice in Hanam/Itaewon (never know the difference) It's on the main road, opposite the new Comme des Garcons shop.

Chinese hotpot restaurant called "Bulia."

Hongik Univerisity Station (Hongdae) Exit #1, hang a right down the alley, and it's on your left before you hit the main drag. Absolute heaven.

Zelen!!! I had the vegetable moussaka there. I was blown away. Even the salad was amazing. And everything other people ordered looked equally fantastic, especially some sort of stuffed tomato. You've got to go there.
Others I'd recommend would be Petra for Middle Eastern. (Zelen is Bulgarian btw)
I like La Cigale Monmartre for mussels and Belgian food. They have about 20 different recipes for mussels.
La Tavola for pizza and pasta.
Indigo in Haebangchon is pretty good too.
Tartine makes nice pies. I liked their key lime pie and blueberry pie.

I didn't like Rock n Roll Sushi, Le Saigon or Buddha Belly. None of them tasted authentic or even tasty. I can seriously cook better. Actually I'm a good cook so I don't eat out much but I love talking about food Smile

La Tavola is good but a bit pricey, and it has a lot of competition.

Screw Tartine, it's SOOO overpriced. I saw a NY cheesecake there priced at 63,000 won.

Well, lucky for me I don't like cheesecake. The pies I mentioned were 33,000 each which is good for me since I only get a craving once a year.

OP, it depends on what kind of food you like and your price range, but I know an all-inclusive buffet-style shabu shabu restaurant that also has Korean dishes, a sushi bar, and a dessert bar and it'll that'll knock your socks off for under 20,000 per person.

Please, do tell. I knew of one good shabu shabu buffet restaurant in Gaebong, but it went to crap after a change of ownership.

They do have alcohol you must purchase separately. Only problem is the crowds.

This is a shabu shabu chain and most (not all) of the restaurants are buffet style, which ROCKS! They also have some Korean dishes, sliced salmon, sushi, a regular salad bar, a dessert bar, and drinks all included. It's called Shabumi. I have been to many of them, including the restaurants in Beomgye and Suwon.

http://www.shabumi.co.kr/html/ENG/ab/w_ab_050.html

They have many locations but you want to find those with "Specialty Store of Shabu Shabu Buffet"

http://www.shabumi.co.kr/html/ENG/fr/w_fr_010.html

One tip for the location at "Yong Deung Po." It's at Mullae Station inside the 2nd floor food court in Homeplus. It's in the back of the food court area. The food is fantastic and you can get everything for under 15,000 per person. Just make sure you are hungry.

If you've never tried buffet style shabu shabu then you are in for a treat. It's that "pot of hot oil in the middle of your table" food and when you get buffet style you can choose what to toss into the pot. You can choose from vegetables, different noodles and mandu, and, of course, seafood and beef. There's also different sauces you can use for dipping. At least try it once and you may discover a great new way of eating that is fun, too.

Taj Palace in Itaewon for Indian food. They have an excellent buffet on weekends, including enough vegetarian dishes to fill up a plate. Great samosas and nan and their chai is heavenly.
