I have the option of buying a new xbox or getting a PC upgrade. I love FPS. Primarily want to get into online Black Ops.

I like the PC game controls because they are superior, however I can work with an xbox control pad. Even though it kinda sucks, everybody has the same handicap, so it's not a deal breaker. PC has great graphics, Xbox is custom made for its games, etc. etc. I'm not that picky.

I guess what I'm most concerned about is the online community. Is there any in Korea these days? Can I play on U.S. servers?

Where can I find the largest community with the most low-ping servers...PC or Xbox?

Thx

i'm on the ps3. i play MW2 online. one perk for ps3 over the xbox is that while you have to pay a monthly fee for xbox live, the psn is free. pc online gaming will be free too, of course.

hanguker, I have the exact same question. My PC is pretty powerful so getting an XBox would mean downgrading graphics and controllers Smile I hope someone can answer this question.

PC, of course. It's not even possible to compare the two. PC has better graphics, better controls, bigger online community, more international & US servers, better & more diverse games (and more games, period), and game extensions & upgrades, including fan-made ones.

Plus all the other perks of having a PC, obviously. In my opinion, the ONLY reason to ever buy a console is if you have friends over a lot and like to play against them. If you'll only be playing solo, get a PC.

Did you even read my post or did you just fanboy jizz on your keyboard?

I like the PC experience as much as anyone. However, I'm concerned about online gaming. I have had some bad experiences with some of my PC game titles in Korea because there had been no servers to play on.

I'm wondering if the situation with the xbox or even the PS3 is any different?

Rudeness was totally unnecessary. I meant if you'd be playing physically solo at your house, obviously. If you're sitting alone in your apartment playing online games against other people around the world, I would recommend a PC. If you want to play multiplayer games that require multiple controllers in your apartment, I would recommend a console.

hanguker, your response was out of line, oldtactics was just offering some info.

Anyhow, check this out -
http://www.cod7blackops.com/dedicated-servers/
And based off of gamerservers list (http://www.gameservers.com/blackops/), I am hopeful Tokyo or Sydney will be viable options for us in the ROK. I also left a suggestion to add South Korea to the list of servers, if enough people do this, we'll hopefully get a local server.

pc gamers get sh@t on here for server support. totally gutted bad company 2 lost it local servers. has anyone had better experience with other online multiplayer games? how is modern warfare 2 support? and i dont mean japan or taiwan servers, i mean dedicated korean servers.

however the alternative isnt appealing either. i can never get used to fps on my xbox360controlelrs so its kind of catch 22. crap controller system or poor to little server support. your choice.

So as I feared there aren't going to be any low-ping servers for games like Battlefield 3 and Black Ops for the PC.

How about the Xbox. How is multiplayer gaming here in Korea? Can you play most of the FPS titles like Halo Reach and Black Ops online without lag?

Thanks for any useful information.

If good PC gaming was feasible I would definitely upgrade the old PC for the FPS, but if the new games are going to meet the same fate as Bad Company I guess the Xbox is the way to go.

Multiplayer gaming in Korea on consoles is FIFA and Winning Eleven and even then they go to console version of PCBangs. Koreans rarely game alone at their house, it's viewed the same way you might say if you were going home to drink alone. Korean perspective gaming alone is like for addicts and fanatics. Even if you are gaming alone you should go to PCBang to be around other people... Razz

So basically all PCbang driven, and if you go there the most common FPS is CS and Sudden Attack, more hardcore players might play A.V.A. Otherwise it's Winning Eleven/FIFA Online, AION, Warcraft, Starcraft. I've never seen anyone playing COD online, and it's not installed in any PCbangs. Koreans are not trendy when it comes to playing the latest video games. At most actual arcades people are playing SFIV, some shooting game with plastic guns or some version of DDR or GH/Rock Band/DJ Hero.

I play MW2 with my buddies back in Canada pretty regularly. My ping depends on who invites who to game, if I invite them I have amazing ping, if they invite me its kind of meh but playable. I get teleport hacks and sometimes my bullets don't connect but thats pretty rare. Haven't tried blackops yet.

playing online means playing with the same equipment - if you have an xbox and play against some kid with a pc you'll get fragged over and over. If you have a pc you're at least somewhat fairly matched against other pcs (other than the guy who spends a fortune on his rig) and will be better than the consoles
