does anyone have a game similar to taboo? i've had great success with that at a public middle school, so i'm trying to find something similar. i just had my first class (monday morning, period 1 = my guinea pig class) and charades just isn't panning out. other games or any suggestions on how to revise charades?
the kids have speaking tests coming up soon, so i wanted to do something fun for them before then. |

I would love to play Balderdash with students, but it requires Critical Thinking |

There's two ways to play Taboo or speed quiz. You can either write the word on the board and have to one student face the class and not look at the word and have to guess it's meaning from the students cues.
Alternatively you can give one student an index card with ten related words on and have them give cues to the class and have them gues the word.
Brainstorming put the class into groups and give each team a catagory have them come up with as many words as possible one student writes them on the board.
Hangman- One of the grestest time killers of all time every dedicated EFL teacher plays this religiously. |

Have the kids come to the front in groups of 4 or 5. Have the first one read a word on a post it. For example, tell all of them it is a job. But only the first student sees it. The other kids are facing away, in a line. One at a time, the tap the next student in line on the shoulder, he turns around, and they have 10 seconds to act it out. The next student may know exactly what it is, and act it out well, or have no idea and just copy the actions as he acts it out for the following kid. The last student has to say what he thinks was on the card.
Whenever I give them the word teacher, someone ends up miming beating up a kid. It's up to you if you want to share the word with the class so they know it beforehand, or see if they can guess it when it's all done. I don't know what Taboo is, so I have no idea if this is similar. I teach all middle school boys, so at least once per class, someone does something that looks sexual, and they all crack up. |
