Anyone know how to post home (Ireland) large packages?
I will have 2snowboards (largest is 164cm other is 149cm), each board will have a pair of boots and bindings with it. I would also like to include a longboard skateboard in the package with wheels and trucks (147cm long).
From my own rough calculations package should weigh in or around 30kg.
Whats the best way to send a package of this size? Korean Post? EMS?

Because of the size (not the weight) Korea post won't take them.
It will be expensive to ship them if you can't take them with you as sport baggage.
Look at air freight (from any of the airlines) if you have someone to pick them up for you when they arrive back in Ireland or if you will arrive soon after they do (they can sit in customs for 30 days without issue).

Nope.... cant take them with me. Thats the problem. I'll be leaving Korea but travelling for a year or so before moving onto another teaching jobelse where. That Korea EMS service no good either?
Never heard of the air freight thing before- how does that work? Doesnt matter if they take 6months to get home or a year or whatever- the slowest of slow surface mail would be goodif thats possible?! |

You can ask about EMS but I am sure that the physical size (not weight) will preclude that option.
Check your favorite airline for air-freight prices and conditions (google airline name and airfreight).
You can also try the couriers (they are more flexible albeit much more expensive) when it comes to physical dimensions.
The last option would be a freight forwarder (tek-bae) or shipping agent. You may need a Korean speaking friend to help you with this one.
I hope the boards are something VERY special because the cost of getting them home will certainly cost more than they are worth.

Take them in to a big post office and just ask them if you can send them by EMS?
If not, your other options might be sending with an airline and asking someone to pick them up for you (at a nearby airport back home). Or asking someone in Korea to hold onto them until you're back home and then sending them to you (again via an airline).
That said, I'm also curious about whether Koreans have something like tea crates for surface shipping. When I was in the UK, it was possible to buy a largish wooden crate and fill it with anything. Weight wasn't important, just the physical size. It would take about 2 to 4 months for the crate to get to the States but it was really cheap. China had something similar as well. |
