in terms of life style?

maybe because I'm from a boring country, but I find it here much more fun.

and I think if I knew the language and culture better I would have more fun.

apart from the language and cultural barriers, how was your hometown/country better in terms of life style?

Where should I start? Better food, better beer, better wine, better weather, better salaries, bigger houses, more diverse (people don't stare at you or talk down to you because you are a different race), less crowded, better sports, etc etc.

I can only think of a couple areas where Korea is "better" than my home country. Korea has better public transportation and cheaper taxis, and going out drinking at night in Korea is better because you don't have to drive home drunk, and the bars don't close at 2 AM.

id say its definately much more fun here than at home. thats because this culture tends to centre around decadance and debauchery a bit these days .
If I want to get laid, stay in a sleazy hotel for a weekend, get off my head on cheap booze until i black out, sing, dance, buy cheap stuff, play computer games until i have a cardic arrest or die of dehydration, eat until i vomit etc - i can do it here so cheaply! Because in this country, its every ones right to put their own personal pleasure above self respect or principles.
Im not having a go, just making an observation based on what I see, every single day...

Korea's great if you want to live like Charlie Sheen. That is to say, the partying is great. But my home country has better:

air (by a long shot)
traffic
wildlife/nature
higher ed
food
arts
traveling
sports
shopping
architecture

It's not better at all. However, I think that says more about quality of life in my home country than it does about Korea.

Cleaner streets, more open spaces, plenty of parks and greenery to enjoy, easy to find somewhere peaceful to relax or exercise.

More variety of produce available from the supermarkets, and a greater diversity of restaurants.

Warm weather nine months of the year, and even during winter the temperature generally hovers around 20 degrees celcius during the day.

Apart from a few specific peak times each week, catching public transport, going shopping or to the supermarket, or visiting tourist sites are generally uncrowded and you can easily manage your schedule to avoid these times if you can't stand crowds. Peak hour in Korea is every hour.

Beer gardens open from lunchtime. This is actually one thing that surprises me about Korea; even with the abundance of bars if you're out during the day and wanna sit down and relax over a few beers it's hard to find anywhere that's open. Maybe in Itaewon there might be places open from lunch? I dunno.

Things that are better in Korea:

Public transport is more frequent and comprehensive, but loses major points for taking much longer to travel similar distances due to busy roads and abundant subway stops/line transfers, and also being overcrowded all the time.

Always nearby a convenience store and plenty of restaurants/bars and umm... phone stores. This isn't such a stand-out for me personally as I always lived in places in my home city that were in close proximity to these kind of places, but I know this isn't true for a large percentage of people in my city who'd probably need a car to go out anywhere.

Internet is much much faster and much much cheaper.

And number 1 reason Korea is better: my girlfriend is here (until I can convince her to leave)

Dining Diversity (for my tastes, Korean food can be diverse, but I don't appreciate the diversity of whale, dog, and silkworms)
Being able to eat alone and not be thought of as weird
Traffic
Things in my language- Theater, Civic Groups, Interest Clubs, etc.
Air Quality
Craig's List type classifieds for big ticket items
Better Basketball
Liquor
Beer
Wine
Diversity of People- Koreans are monocultural and NETs are a pretty white bread lot. I miss the days of hanging out on the farm before going into work and then hanging out at the liquor store taking corner and then going home to chill with some suburban types before the Salvadoreans downstairs invite us over for the family party they are having. Zany nights like that.
Alone time and being able to do things like go off on your own and not be stuck in a group
Bookstores
Greek Salads

Better in Korea-
Not having to care about politics
Not being obsessed with how the local sports team is doing
Certain aspects of food
Getting to learn a whole new set of arts, music, and drama (historical)
Getting to learn new games
Bootleg Items
Booze culture- Cheap booze, taxis, 4AM bars, etc.
Random weird stuff that happens outside of the office window- protest marches, guy on scooter driving down the street, accidents, adds a flavor to life
Fruit Trays at bars beats a plate of grease any day
People here are generally open to talking about Fine Art and Classical Music. Being smart and college educated is not a bad thing.
Doing time in prison isn't looked at as something to be admired
