I am a teacher back home, and i was surfing around Craigslist to try to find ANYTHING related to teaching that I could do. Then i saw an ad to teach in Korea. I almost joined the US Navy so i could travel, but backed out at the last moment. So, teaching in Korea would allow me to travel and make money. So that's what i did. How did you find out about teaching here? |

'but i already signed up'
'oh well, see ya!'

Back in the early 90s, I guess? Maybe early 80s? I think I heard of Taiwan first and people making money hand over fist there. Like 800 NT/hour. And Korea, it seemed, was the less lucrative of the two at that time.
I remember my mom telling me I should go and I said "Why the hell would I do that?" |

When I graduated from university in TESOL, it was a normal thing that most people did for a year or two. |

I asked the question: What opportunities are happening related to international business majors? Teaching in Japan or China came up, but this website introduced me to Korea. I was hoping to get on with a company that would sponsor me in a position as an import/export agent, contracts agent, or cost analysis of outsourcing work related finance positions, but nothing is available in this market for those lacking 5 or more years experience. And so here I am.... Uh, why did I study so hard in the brutal high level courses of math and finance science to teach little kids? I guess under employment is going to be the general rule from here on out for a while anyhow. |

Sitting on a couch in Lahaina one night with my roommates. My friend started to tell us about his Korean adventure. I had more month at the end of the money. The prospects of recharging my bank account and doing some travel peaked my interest. Three months later I landed at Incheon. |

While living in Europe at the time, I'd heard of a wonderful, almost mythical food that could only be found in Korea. I believe it was called gimchi or kimchi, or something along those lines. I'd heard that it was like what heaven would taste like, if heaven had a taste. I'd also been lead to believe that it cured whatever ailments one could possibly come down with, an almost fountain of youth if you will. I'm still searching. |

.......next thing I knew I was in a boiling hot room of hyper 8 year-olds in an ECC in Seongnam without a damn clue......but I wouldn't change anything!! |

I was looking for a job in Japan, and I realised that I couldn't afford the airfare and housing cost. Luckily I spotted the 'Free airfare and housing' link on an esl site, and 2 weeks later I was in a hagwon. |

When i was stationed here for the army, i ran into a few teachers while cruising through hongdae. They seemed to enjoy teaching. |
