I was offered a great deal on a friend's Android phone. It's only a few months old, but she is upgrading due to an amazing deal a salesguy/friend offered her.

I've got a decent plain jane phone, but would like to upgrade. The question is if I'd be able to use it in the USA, Europe, or even other asian countries if I changed the sim card at a later date. I know that Korean phones sometimes have "different" sim cards to make these things difficult.

Does anyone know if I'd be able to use this elsewhere when I leave?

Thank you preemptively.

Should be able to. Android isn't Korea-specific.

Change the SIM and enjoy Very Happy

Sorry I forgot to mention that it's the Samsung Galaxy A (the one that came out a few months before the S model).

Will it still work outside of Korea?

I have a Galaxy S, and used it a couple of times back in the USA by just inserting my T-Mobile SIM card. It basically worked, although there were a few quirks - some of them might have gone away had I been permanently staying in the USA versus just taking a trip.

I was able to connect to WiFi just fine. I could NOT connect to the 3G network. I don't know whether this is because my phone plan in the USA doesn't have a data plan, or additionally whether the hardware is incompatible.

contact me if you have any questions.

provided the phone is unlocked it should work in the states. If 3G doesn't work that because Korea only uses the 2100 frequency which isn't common in the US (last time I checked/might change in the future).

I'm pretty sure it works with ATT back in the states. They use the same network for 3G. T-mobile and ATT both use different networks for 3G

I'm not sure if I'll be living in the states or elsewhere, but thanks for the responses.

How would I unlock the phone for use in other countries? Just change sim cards?

I took my Galaxy S home in August. Didn't use it much but had no problems. Roaming charges were reasonable considering. Went to Safeco Field and used the internet and emailed. Everything worked just fine.

You should be able to take it into your local SK shop, they can take care of that for you.
