I believe it states in the contract (GEPIK) that one must leave Korea before one is paid the severance, pension, and housing fees garnished from the salary. I'm six months away from leaving Korea, but i'd like to know what forms to fill out for the pension. Does anyone know?
Will the money be sent to my korean bank account (KB)??
How do I ensure that I will obtain this money after I've left Korea?
Has anyone not been paid their pension/severance/housing??? |

Have fun reading this http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=45302
For the pension, it seems you need to go to your local pension office with your passport, ARC, one-way ticket out of Korea and your home bank details. You can possibly get it paid to your Korean branch, but I don't see the point in that.
I've read of no problems the pension office not giving what is yours. As you're with GEPIK, they should have been paying it OK, it should be on your payslip as deductions. |

You can get your pension only once you've left the country at the end of your contract or have proof (via a plane ticket) that you will soon be leaving the country and terminating your contract. To claim it you need to visit the pension office yourself. When you go, take all of your pay stubs and request information on how much has been added to your account each month. Make sure the total equals 9% of your taxable income, and that only half of that 9% came out of your monthly check.
Severance is up to the school. I think they have 30 days from the termination of your contract to pay it. All of my schools so far have paid me before leaving the country, but they are not required to do so. If you have some reason to believe your school will try to hold on you, visit the local labor board before heading out.
As for the housing fees, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Your wages should never have been garnished to pay for anything other than taxes, insurance, and pension. Your school either provides housing directly to you, completely separate from your regular, contracted salary, or you are given a monthly stipend in addition to your regular, contracted salary. If they've been taking money out for housing, you definitely need to head to the local labor board because they've been stealing from you. |

quick question about pension...
i've worked in korea for almost four years... different companies (3)... do i need any paper work from these companies, or has the pension office been keeping up with my payments from day one of me being here and my multiple visas?
in other words, will i get 4 years worth of pension payments, or just the last visa i've finished...?
thanks in advance for anyone who's dealt with this |
