|
|
So I have been in here for a few weeks now and at first i thought the stench emitting from my bathroom was due to the filthy condition but after seriously cleaning it (I mean the tiles changed color and everything) it still stinks. I have been having sinus issues and telling my boss someone had to do something about this because it cant be normal, the stench makes it hard to shower even. The boss man came in tonight and all he seemed to notice was the fact that the grouting around the edges of the toilette was completely crumbled out...i am not sure that that is the source of the stench though, so them fixing that probably wont fix the smell...anyone experienced this before? Its good awful and my sinus's are killing me. |

Check your drains. The grate lifts up and there's probably a cup sorta thingy that's full of hair and other gross stuff. Clean it out and you may solve the problem. |

Have you looked in the toilet tank? Perchance the previous owner left a nasty surprise, the correct term I believe is a 'top decker'. |

Illysook-There is no cup, just a scary looking black hole under the grate, which doesn't look clogged, just disgusting. Good thought though thanks.
hwa jang shil-LMAO, nope but now I know what the boss man (Who doesn't really speak English) was looking for when he peaked in the tank with a weary look.
So here a sit, having made sinus tea out of chilli peppers, lemons and honey, and though my sinus's feel a lil better its a bitter sweet better because now i can smell the stench again. |

Well, I hate to think what I, and probably countless other people, are doing to the earth by constantly dumping bleach down the drain, but oh hell yeah I would rather smell bleach...the smell creeps out to the rest of my cubicle...i mean apartment. |

You can buy these kits (ask a Korean to help you find one online) that are easy to install in the drain. It stops all smells from coming through. Simple and cheap. |

That stench is because of a dirty and compacted drain. It is very common, and I had this problem at my last dwelling. If you are going to ask them to do anything, ask them to send a professional drain cleaner. Those guys will clean out the debris from deep inside the drain.
I have been met with total apathy when I made this request, so I had to resort to DIY measures. I understand your point about bleach, but in Korea bleach is an essential home-cleaning item, because of the stench and mold.
If you don't have the cup thingy in your drain, that means all the hair is going down the drain, and that contributes to the smell. It would be ideal to try and clean that out first. A friend of mine got really long plastic gloves, and a bucket. It was disgusting, but it worked.
Then you take about two huge bottles of bleach, and you pour them down the drain, followed by boiled hot water. Then you leave your windows open, and leave the house for several hours. Repeat this a few times until you get it under control, or even periodically to control it.
Pouring bleach on mold and then covering up with a paper towel for 24 hours takes away the mold also. |

Capricious1: Get your landlord to re-caulk around the base of the toilet and that should take care of it.
I had the exact same problem in my last apartment in Korea. I moved in and immediately noticed a foul odor in the bathroom. After trying drano in the toilet, sink, and drain, with no improvement, I finally decided that the smell had to be coming from the base of the toilet, where the caulking was all crumbly and where there was even a couple of holes in it. The landlord came and applied some cauking all around the toilet base, and I had to wait a certain length of time before I could expose the toilet to water (I made sure to get my shower out of the way the evening before he came over, so I could keep my bathroom dry afterwards). The smell was gone after that.
I hope it works out. |

Blackthorne- Ok getting them to fix that shouldn't be too hard, they have already acknowledged its completed decimated, almost all of it crumbled in the first cleaning storm and it was already cracked and
Calicoe-I will have to try the bleach method if I cant get a professional drain cleaner, the the drain in the floor is way too small for me to get my hand in there, at times like this I wish I spoke Korean, IF ANYONE READING this does speak Korean well enough to call me a drain cleaner, I would really appreciate it.
Looks like a good long line of advice to follow, so i will do those things and get a drain kit. Thank you so much everyone! |
