Us Korea teachers are a regular bunch of Rhodes scholars and upper class gentleman who would never dance around on TV for 5,000 dollars a day....

Seriously, get off your high horses. This guy's target audience is YOUNG children. This is the same kind of stuff they put on Sesame Street. Do you see anyone hating on Cookie Monster for teaching the letter C???

In terms of actual teaching. This guy is spot on in meeting children in their Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky anyone?!?!

The guy is an actor, not a teacher, right? I'm sure when the cameras are off he goes back to being just a regular old guy. You bet your @$$ I'd take that job if it paid well.... I think I'd be able to ham it up on TV for a bit, then laugh it off in my huge pile of 50,000 won bills.

I wrote a thread about him about a year ago.

As idiotic, clownish, and self-defeating as he may seem (to us) Koreans love it because he is harmless, simple-minded, and a sycophant.

So they throw 50,000 Oh-Mans at him.

You act like him in class, you will get no respect from your students and your boss won't throw an extra Chun won at you.

For all his tomfoolery, he gets what he wants: a donkeyload of money, and general superstardom whenever he walks around Korea.

I'd kill to be his agent and take 10% Smile

You're right about the no respect thing (if he was teaching elementary or higher). But if he was teaching Kinder I think the kids would eat this schtick up and his classes would be pretty good.

No matter how good a teacher you are, your hagwon boss is not throwing you a ship won more than your contract ever!

The first word he spells sums Korea up nicely, they love that kind of thing, just check out any Korean comedy show.

I think he's great for kindy, but a bit over the top for older elementary. He's on the EBS website, my 4th graders found him mildly amusing.

Maybe if I had a chance to get with the female host.

Also, funnily enough, many Korean employers wish their schools were exactly like this video.

It's TV. He doesn't have punk students to control because they're actors, too. "Oh, I wouldn't do that!" Pfft.

I'd do it.

For teaching little kids, the guy's persona looks spot on to me. It's funny the way a bow tie has come to depict three different kinds of character these days; The wacky, slightly eccentric but brilliant scientist, the kids entertainer or the suave super spy ( a dinner jacket is obviously also required for the final role, braces for the second one.) The people complaining about this guy on here are fairly recently out of university, pretty cool guys wanting to do the student loan pay off and travelling thing but slightly annoyed that they have to work with little children in order to complete the first two objectives. They can cope with the little kiddie babysitting as long as they can retain a certain amount of cool but this guy seems to break the rules. He really doesn't seem to care. Worried they might all be tarred with the same brush, they vent on Dave's saying the guy is an idiot and that Korean Hagwan teachers just want dancing monkeys. The fact is, if you're teaching young kids, you could probably learn from this guy. If that idea seems repellent to you, as it does to me by the way, you're probably in the wrong job

I never had a desire to teach little kids for more than 5 minutes.

I rather deal with the punk teens anyday than with little kids.

Im aware its probably easier to deal with the kiddies, but I just cant.

Unless the money is right of course. lol

I hope the irony of the word cheese is deliberate!

I would gladly don the bow tie and glasses, and act like an over-enthusiastic nerd for this gig - can you spell my new word? M-I-N-T-E-D, minted

Get this. According to a friend of mine who applied for the job, there was a rumor the producer of this show was an angry old Korean adjossi who worried about a young foreign buck stealing away his wife. So they decided to include the question "are you castrated?" on the application form. Nobody knows exactly if this fella is castrated or not... but apparently he avoids jim-jil-bangs at all costs!

Come on, you probably believed me... even for just a millisecond!

I'd probably give away my left nut if the pay was 10 million/month, or more, for a year to do a job like that.
