Personally I just get the super combination pizza from Pizza Maru for 6000 won, or the Vulcano Chicken Pizza for 7900, but I wanted to try the EMart pizza just to test it out. I guess a lot of other people also just want to try to try it because of the hype. Maybe it will be easier to order it in a month or two. |

is it really that good? i mean you can get a pepperoni pizza for like 18000 won from domino's (using their online discount) without all this fuss. |
It's actually pretty good, I find the quality and quantity to be better than Pizza School and Pizza Maru. I happened to be in E-mart on Sat around the time it opened (less of a crowd when you want to buy something) and people were lined up at the pizza counter at 10 in the morning. |

I'll have to try it when the crowds dissipate a little.
In the meantime, I'll have to settle for minimal wait Costco pizza. |

The E-Mart by me has a weekday daily quota of 390, which they seem to sell out by 10pm. On a friggin weekday! No wonder why local pizza joints are all pissed about this.
PS. December issue of Daegu Pockets has an article on the E-Mart Pizza hype + controversy. www.daegupockets.com/pdfs/Dec2010.pdf |

Okay: just got back from my local EMart, which opens at 10:00, and was told at 9:50 that they were sold out. Conclusion: I will never be able to eat an EMart pizza. |

Seems that people pre-order online. Funny thing is that they're not selling all those other kinds of pizza that the small shops have (sweet potato, shrimp etc) which Koreans seem to love and are still selling 200+ pizzas a day.. does Costco put a limit on how much they sell per day? |

I'm pretty sure you can't order online, you have to line up at 9:00. |

So true. In other words, the customer is king and sets the prices. |

I refuse to buy this pizza because it will just lure people away from Costco and force Costco to shut down like all the other foreign competitors so Koreans can puff their chest and say Emart is superior and when we go shopping there will be less foreign products at much higher rates. |

I talked to Emart managers in Wonju's Emart last week about never being able to get a pizza. I actually set up an interview as I was considering writing a story for Korea Times about the Pizza. I was really suprised at the answers I received from the managers and Emart shoppers.
The managers informed me that the reason I could never get a pizza without a two or three hour wait was planned. Any Emart store makes only 260 Pizzsa a day. Thats the limit. You are expected to wait two to three hours on purpose. This keeps you in the store shoping. The long pizza wait is a deliberate marketing plan.
I asked some Korean shoppers how they feel about this at Emart, as well as some Korean friends. I used two translators as my Korean is limited. Most Koreans do Emarts maketing philosophy with the Pizza, but feel it is Emart's choice to do this, and will continue shopping there.
I have tried to look at the whole thing from a cultural perspective outside my own. However, it really bothers me. I have stopped shopping at Emarts over it. I no longer eat pizza, or much of any processed food, so I was shopping very little at Emart anyway. However my pregnant wife gets cravings for Pizza and it would have been nice to try it. |
